New member...some concerns about loose skin

    Hi Everybody.
I'm fat and 50. Been 70-80 lbs. over weight for almost 30 years.
I know I have to lose weight if I want remain healthy and live a long life. I am not a vain person....but I have an apron of fat on my lower abdomen and was wondering if my age if your skin shrinks at all after substantial weight loss. Theres no way I can afford a tummy tuck.
Any of you guys out there that have lost alot of weight and dealt with the loose skin issue? Just curious.

I have an apron too. I need to loose 100lbs. I thought about it (i am 52) and was wondering if the skin would fall down to my knee's.
I think that exercise will help some. If not I'll just tuck it into my pants and call it a day.

Surprized theres not more replies on this one.
I was hoping for an ex-chubby to fill me in on what to expect.

Some one was talking about this in another forum.. there is a cream you can get that helps firm the skin or something... if you lose the weight slowly I would imagine it would help... The topic was "how will I look after I lose 100lbs weight loss" it is in the diet support forum.. there is some good info in that topic

Keep in mind that the creams are not permanent. They only work while they are on your skin. It temporaily tightens your skin with chemicals. I think, however, that if you lose weight more slowly, the issue of loose skin is minimal. It's only if you have a lot to lose and do so very quickly the natural elasticity of your skin doesn't have time to keep up.

    Skin

Yes, losing the weight slowly, as we tend to do on Atkins, gives the skin time to tighten too. I think part of it depends on age. I'm 55 and so far I haven't had any real looseness other than that I would expect with age; quite minor. I too will be interested to see what is left when I eventually lose all the weight I need to.

Of course I'm an optimist. Because I already have grocery checkers giving me senior discounts. If I get loose skin I may just pull it all back and tie it up.
