    PCOS and Atkins

    Hi

I am new to the Atkins way of eating and seriously considering starting the induction phase. However, I have PCOS which makes it very difficult for me to lose weight. I was wondering if there is anyone here who has PCOS who has successfully lost weight following the plan? If so, was the rate of losing different to those of diets they may have tried in the past?

I have a current BMI of 25.6 and would like to lose around 20-24lbs to take me to the 22-23 mark.

I am familiar with diets which use Ketosis as I lost 30lbs on the Cambridge Diet which is a controlled very low calorie diet. Unfortunately, I stopped as I had very little energy the entire time on it which made exercise very difficult.

I apologise if this has been covered (or if the message is in the wrong place).

    Thanks

    TS

As a casual observer, meaning I can't point to the threads and links that support this... It seems to me that a low carb diet is the ONLY thing other then drugs that has a positive impact on PCOS. I'd even go further to say that it seems that without low carb eating, even the drugs are not very effective.

Low carb alone or in combination with drug therapy seems like the best way to control or even gain the upper hand over PCOS.

GOOD LUCK. There are also many benefits to low carb eating that go beyond weight loss.

Thanks for your reply. I have decided to give it a go; I am 3 days in and in Ketosis. I don't expect a dramatic loss during induction as I was dieting before hand. I'm not going to become a slave to the scales either! I can tell by looking in the mirror that I am already looking smaller (less bloated) around the middle.

I will do anything to improve my condition - it has stopped me from doing so many things

    PCOS

I'm going to jump in here even though I am totally not doing Atkins anymore.
I have PCOS and Atkins is probably the best diet around for that. I don't know if you are trying to conceive, but I can tell you that a couple of weeks after I started Atkins I got pregnant and I am convinced that it was because of Atkins. Low carbing is great for PCOS.
The only problem I found is that when I avoided carbs like I did on Atkins I started to seriously crave carbs and I eventually blew it big time. I am still a believer in Atkins though and highly recommend it for PCOS people.
