Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I've been low-carbing a few weeks and have been staying away from refined sugars and starches for a few years.
I was recently doing some research on the relationship between cholesterol and Alzheimer's, and I stumbled upon some fascinating research.
Insulin resistance of the brain appears to play a causal role in Alzheimer's. Interestingly, there is an Alzheimer's-related gene, apoE4, that appears to be weeded out by high-carb diets. Populations with a long history of agriculture have the lowest frequency of this gene, while modern hunter-gatherers have the highest.
You can read about it in detail in my article, http://www.cholesterol-and-health.co...lzheimers.html
I also discuss the causal role of DHA deficiency, which is an omega-3 fatty acid found in pastured animal products, fatty fish, cod liver oil, etc.
Enjoy!
Chris
