    Old version vs. new version

Hi all! It's Mickey again, ok, I has to confess that I have not even started Induction yet, I am trying to learn all I can first, hopefully Monday is my start date!! I originally read the very first version of the book, late 1970's, 80's?? Of course, right at the moment, I can't find it. Anyways, I have made it to Chapter 13 now of the newest version, and I tell you, I am getting confused. What am I am worry about, the old version was fairly basic...carbs!! The new version talks about fiber, non-digestible carbs, glycemic index, etc.... so, what do I do here? Help!!

Mickey, I hear you. I picked up the 1972 (very first book) for a dime at a garage sale. I read it and started induction. It was not until the end of the first week when after having a lot of problems that I found this forum and learned that there is a book #2 and #3.

Deep six the original version. It allows zero carbs during induction (however long you want that to be) and pushes unlimited quantities of proteins and fat while implying that exercise is optional. There is good reason why there is a book #2 and #3.

Follow the last revision, mine is printed in 2002. Follow the Induction phase and all other phases as laid out. You will feel good and see results.

    Carbs

Just count the carbs. Count the net carbs. Fiber is a carbohydrate, but it is not digestible.

The new book is worlds better than the original. I remember people on it and that it worked; but the newer version is healthier in the long run. The original idea of unlimited proteins was still based on the fact that after you are on the plan for a little while, you appetite just goes away. Dr. Atkins also found out more about carbs, and realized that many vegetables are really healthy, even during Induction and that some carbs are always necessary.

    Good Luck!

The newest book is full of the most recent tweaks to the diet. I originally did the 1990's version and wasn't really able to lose weight. With this newer one, I was much more successful.
