    JoeBlow's Progress Report

I'm 6'4" and 27 years old. Started the induction about 3 days ago. I just did my first ketosis stick and it was purple so looks like I'm in ketosis. I kinda did the induction intially a couple weeks ago and decided to put this off for real until college football season (I'm a big tailgator, you guys would probably cringe if you heard about the last game's menu ) and thanksgiving were done. Restarted(or started for real) the day after turkey day.

Ultimate Goal- ? Got none really, just know that its time to do something before I really start putting myself at risk for all the diseases that come with being overweight and age. I guess 250 would be a good goal. I've always carried quite a bit of muscle weight and have a fairly large frame. Not too sure what is the "ideal" weight for me. I guess I'll get there and see huh?

My one real sin has always been Coke, Dr Pepper, etc as well as good beers (very carby). I've actually kinda practice stints of not drinking them at all and subsituting water, diet lemonade, diet sierra mist a couple of times. The withdraw (sugar/caffene) off of it seems less each time I get off it for a week or so, I'm pretty sure I can/will kick that habit without a problem. The one big thing for me is I travel ALOT, so it's going to be hard to deal with that. One of the reasons I asked about the gimicky things like the shakes, etc. Another thing is recently I've been eating alot more salads to kinda prepare. Kinda developing a taste for them. Fast food salads are going to have to be a big main stay of this for me. Hopefully, McD's won't pull thier salad line. Any other travel /eating out hints would be helpful. Especially breakfast, where I'll need something, but it's close to impossible to get something like eggs, etc. ( we usually leave early, and can work 12-16 hours a day, stay in hotels)

Anyway, thats my deal. We shall see how it goes....

    12/1/03 - 319 lbs.

    Hi again

I too was a shocker when it came to Dr Pepper and Pepsi Max.. granted the Pepsi Max is low carb.. but it has caffeine which I try to avoid.. more because of the effects it has on my moods than anything else LOL

I usually have Diet Lemonade, Diet Solo, or Diet Caffeine free Pepsi (Love it love it love it!).. sometimes when travelling its hard to come by these though.. so I tend to either get a water.. or if desperate for something different I will get a Pepsi Max..

My husband has special dietary requirements so when we travel I usually try to make sure I have plenty of easy access non perishable foods that I don't have to keep in an esky...

Some things I pack for trips that we both can eat are:

Tinned Tuna - Check the labels though as some "Flavoured" ones have sugar and more carbs than others... my favourite is John West Tuna Fish spread in a can (its sort of paste consistency and you don't need to contend with messy oil)

Cheese Wedges - You can get these cheese wedges usually in the kids section at the supermarket that you don't need to keep cold.. i think they are called moo cow cheese or something.. but they are awesome!

Nuts - ok nuts are not for induction but come in handy later on

    Pork Rinds

low carb baked goods.. maybe those atkins bars if absolutely necessary??

    Beef Jerky

Twiggy sticks... salami sticks that you dont have to keep in the fridge!

    Macca's salads!

You can get protein drinks in Aust made out of whey milk they come in choc and strawberry.. i imagine you would have a better selection in the USA.. but they come in poppers here and have i think 3 grams of carbs per popper..

Thats about all i can think of for now

My hubby is a big soda drinker. He recently discovered Fruit-2-0, which is a flavored water (non-carbonated). He's hooked, and it's all he drinks now. He's not even dieting, he just likes it.

It has no carbs or calories. It's sweetened with Splenda.

That sounds like the drink they sell in Walmart. Not bad at all. Another drink substitue is Diet Rite... I believe it's sweetened with Splenda. I use splenda in everything. Coffee, tea, eggs, (a special japanese recipe). 8)

Anyways, good luck and hope to see your progress soon.

    12/8/03 1am 312 lbs - 7lbs.

For all your caffeine junkies out there, I went a full week with zippo in the Caffeine department. This week, I'm trying for absolutely zero "soft" drinks at all (in my head anything with bubbles). I'm drinking fruit-2-0 and things like it plus water. I'll probably try evidently to go straight water period. I'll save that for later.

Don't know if I'll do it, but it would be nice to have my weight under 300 by new years. A mini-goal- not really that I have much control over from reading stuff aroud here.

I've been on induction for 9 days now. Haven't veered off it at all.

BTW- I used to drink cokes as much as anyone out there. Just as some inspiration to anyone wanting to do it. Also, no withdraw this time at all.

Now starts the hard part. My work takes me travelling and working long days. I haven't figured out a plan. Hopefully, I'll come up with something.

Excellent work. You just might make your end of the year goal at this rate, but don't beat yourself up if you don't make it. You're sure to get very close, and every pound lost is a good accomplishment. Don't put yourself on a timetable or assign deadlines for weight loss. It's good to have a general idea of what you might weigh by a certain time, but just be prepared to adjust those a little now and then. All weight loss is good! Rico

If your in the US and on the road a lot, I suggest Hardees for fast food. Their angus beef hamburgers san-bun is really yummy. I always ask them to hold the bun, ketchup and tomato's and they usually ask me if I'm doing Atkins.
