Where do I start In the late 1990's early 2000's I realised I was stacking on more weight however having a very busy life ,working taking care of our home ,I'd get home from work and just grab a sandwich for tea ( evening meal) My husband worked afternoon shift and I'd prepair him a hot meal so he could heat it up the next day while I was at work ..
After finishing work and selling our home in 2004 we decided to go traveling around Australia in our caravan ( I'm Aussie born and bred) We traveled for two years before moving into our newly built home in 2006 in a small country town two hours from the city..
By them I'd stacked on a few extra kg's I was nearing 90 kg and was horrified to learn I had diabetes in 2007
going to see the diabetes nurse I was scared to death by the possible side effects of diabetes.

I decided I would "try" to do something about my weight issue ...which by the way I had tried in the past without success ...Some three months latter I joined a very expensive weight loss clinic which I visited once in 5 months ( they would phone me once a week) after having blood tests ,they made out a low carb diet for me which was all fresh food with a choice of three different choices for each meal ( no shakes or canned foods)
I was determined to stick to the diet ..which I did loosing 27 kg in weight ..
However over the last 3 months I've gained 3.5 kg and no matter how much I stick to my diet and walking 6 km most days I just can't shift the weight ..
Here is a photo of me before and after..

Good job Kady, you look amazing and I know your blood sugar is probably more under control now. Have you talked to your health care provider regarding your recent weight gain? It sounds like you are doing everything right if you are sticking to the eating plan and getting exercise. It could be that you are adding muscle, have you taken your measurements?
I would encourage you to continue sticking with what you are doing and wait for the results.
I am still fairly new at this myself and seem to be at a standstill , but I am not giving up. I am off some of my medications and feeling better so I will not go back to my old habits. There are probably others here that may be able to help you more than I, and I am sure they will chime in. In the meantime hang in there and do not be discouraged. I am not sure if you are writing down your carb count on meals, but I would encourage you to do that and continue your walks. You have an amazing country to walk in. I was in Australia for just a couple of days this past April on a layover from NZ to America where I live. I want to go back and see more of your beautiful country.
    Stay strong,
    Den

    Kady....
I will leave most of the advice to some of the others, however might I say that you MUST drink lots and lots of water each and every day..
the reason I will leave the advice to others is because I have reached my goal and am on low carb, but on maintenance which is different.. I lost about 140 pounds and am keeping it off..
Just remember that this low carbing is for life and not just a fad diet.. The system works.. In other words ...............

IT WORKS IF YOU WORK IT
SO WORK IT YOUR WORTH IT
I used to live to eat......... Now I eat to live.....
Even a Fish wouldn't get into trouble if it would only keep its mouth shut..

This is exactly why I started eating this way. Low Carb. I do not know what your diabetic nutritionists were telling you at your diagnosis, but I was told to eat carbs! Grains and all.

WOW!!!! What a find! A clinic that taught you to how to eat in the real world with real food! Even though it was expensive, what a treasure! Most would give you prepared foods or shakes.

I was determined to stick to the diet ..which I did loosing 27 kg in weight ..

Congratulations!!! And you have maintained until now.

I know, after finding low carb and eating that way since 2007-2008 that you understand the concept of Low Carb and how it worked for you.

Now, in order to help answer your questions, we need more information.

Have you seen your doctor recently? Is there a change in your blood tests? Is your thyroid okay? Are you on, or changed any medications or doses recently?

What, EXACTLY, are you eating in a week? This is going to force you to track what you eat for a week. No matter what you think you are eating, try to weigh and measure what you eat. If you measure a certain amount, but want more, be sure to include the extra in your tracking. If you normally eat it, track it.

Maybe your metabolism has changed a bit and we can tweak for you. I was eating Very Very low carb for a while, but have started adding in a good serving of veggies at dinner now, still in deep ketosis, and I think I am losing some weight! I have also started adding in more coconut and olive oil. As long as I eat this way, I know my diabetes will be gone. And that is my goal. I do not look like a model, nor do I wear size 2 clothes, but I am healthy! That is my goal.

I hope, together, we can find out what is going on for you and makes sure you are happy with YOU again.

Thank you Aradasky ,to answer a couple of questions ...About two years ago my GP sent me to see a doctor (Specialist) at a public hospital to find answers for my BP spikes ..which has by the way never been resolved other than giving me different medications to try that don't upset my nervous system ,by making me jumpy or keeping me awake most of the night
The same doctor sent me for an ultrasound of my Thyroid ,which revealed several nodules,I was required to have a biopsy of one which thankfully was OK ..
However I have since questioned my GP if the Nodgels could possibly be a reason for my weight gain / BP issues ?
he has said no your blood tests are fine ...I have an appointment to see him when I return from my holidays and I'm going to ask if there is a more extensive test other than a common blood test to test my if thyroid is functioning as it should
As for my diet ..I don't have scales with me ( on holiday ) that's exactly what I did while on the diet ..however I know what a piece of meat that weighs 120 grams looks like ..for the last two months I've been on the exactly same diet without loosing a gram ..I eat fruit and when I'm home my own home made yoghurt for breakfast ,with half a slice of toast ( I was allowed to have 1.1/2 slices of bread a day on the diet )
Yesterday I walked 9 km according to my pedometer

Kady, I hope you are having a great time on your holiday!
That is good news from your GP about your thyroid. I do know several others who have thyroid problems who cannot eat low carb.

Anyway, we will investigate more when we are both home. I am off for two weeks starting Sunday. I think I will still want a list of exactly what you eat when I get home. I want to see the nutritional percentages of what you are eating and I can enter them into my app if yours does not give them. I mainly want to see if shifting carbs and fat make a difference.

I am off all grains except a peice of good bread at a restaurant.

Your walking is very admirable and very good for you. Congratulations on that. However, it may not make a difference in your weight.

We can at least try a few things!

For now, if you want to read something from a doctor who is very prominent in our way of eating in Sweden and whose followers are responsible for bringing butter back to Scandinavia, you can start here. Be sure to keep scrolling and reading through these sites as he loves to stuff information in all over them. I love his advice and have followed his way of eating for years now.

Kady, I am glad you had a great trip.

Remember, exercise is very good for us, (do not stop dancing! ) but in reality it does not use enough energy to offset what we are eating sometimes.

I think the very best we can do is wait until you are back in a regular pattern with your eating and then have you list what and how much you eat. That way we can have a better idea of where we can try to make some changes.

I sat down and worked out how much walking I did while away for a month yesterday ( I wrote my total in my diary each day )
I walked 146 km and danced 12 hours ...and I gained 1.5 kg in weight ..I stuck to my old diet ..It's just not fair ..As far as food the total in carbs I ate was 2 very small loafs of bakers delight bread for the whole month ...I can't dance without some carbs or I get very low blood sugar and get all sweaty/ shaky ..I will look for a link on BD bread weight
As its warm up in Queesland we ate heaps of green salads with lean meats

    http://www.bakersdelight.com.au/prod...ape-seed-loaf/ I only eat 1.1/2 slices a day ..some days I don't have any

Sorry I haven't been here since coming home from Holiday in Queensland just over a month ago
I had my diabetes check up yesterday ..and I'm totally fustrated and would really like some advise on my weight issue ..after all that walking/ dancing I've still not managed to loose any weight despite watching every thing I eat
Ive had my thyroid checked and that's OK..so I can't blame that ..and I also asked about the BP tablets I take ,the dr said none of them are known for causing weight gain ..I haven't walked much in the last week due to massive wind and rain storms in our area ,which resulted in the whole state of South Aust being without power for 24 hours ,,however the sun managed to get through the clouds today so I walked 5 km
    Thanks in advance

    HI Kady,

I can totally understand your frustration. I exercised for sometimes, hours at the gym doing cardio, and weight lifting and did not loose. In fact I gained! Then, when I went VLC, that is when, even if I did not exercise more than a walk every few days, and one day a week lifting heavy weights, I started losing. Go figure!!! Exercise is very important for our body in many ways, it just does not REALLY help to lose that much weight.

What I would love to have from you is what I asked for earlier, a full day' worth of food, amounts and exactly what it is. Do you track your food? Without that, we can't really help.

I am very glad you checked your thyroid and that you know for sure that your BP meds do not cause gains. That is all positive. So, when you start listing, for at least several days, including any snacks or extras during the week, then we can look and see if there are changes that might help.

I hope we can work together on this and help you feel better.

Okay, Kady, I can do a few things with this list. i am assuming it is a good representation of what you eat every day. I had to make some guesstimates as to the amounts, but I am pretty sure I am close. The picture I took of my tracker does not show the chicken but it is in there.

Kady, as you see from the picture you are getting approximately 82 total carbs, subtracting the fiber for 69 net carbs. 30 grams of protein and 20 grams of fat. All for a total of approximately 607 calories.

Here are a few more questions:
1 How much do you weigh now?
2 How much do you want to weigh?
3 Did you get a chance to look at and read the websites I directed you too, earlier?
