    Sudden weight gain on Atkins-why??

I have been on atkins for about a 2 months. In the first month I prob lost a max of one kg..I then started counting carbs very closely and kept my calorie intake at 1200 calories a day. I do exercise now and then that consists of walking the dog-try to do this everyday and 2-3 days a week il do an aerobics class. Other than that I sit at my desk at work
After counting calories and carbs (which was a max of 30g and most usually no more that 20g) I started losing weight-it was slow and just randomly i'd drop a kg one week it wasn't linear. I didn't mind it was very slow as I was close to the weight I want to be (about 5 kgs off) and knew at least it was working.

But I just weighed myself and I went up 4kg! How did this happen?

The only thing I can think of is I had psyllium husk the last 3 days that had 48% detrose (sugar) which I was unaware of. Of course I have cut ths out today. but could this really be the reason why i have GAINED weight?? And water weight for 4 kgs?! not likely...? I don't have my period or anything like that and haven't had heaps of atkins bars or sodium

I feel very lost and discouraged. It is so frustrating and have no idea where to go from here. I am back to square 1 all this effort for nothing :'(

    Any help/ suggestion please?!

I wouldnt worry about it. Believe it or not weather could even change your weight! But you know what you have eaten. Could be muscle gain. The scale could even be wrong. So continue on and dont rely on the numbers. Go by how you feel and how you clothes feel. Do you"feel" like you gained? Dont worry. That only leads to frustrations.

Absolutely true what Cheryl says. I would make darn sure that sugar was gone from your food supplythough. We have all had those days when our weight has gone up for no apparent reason but it's usually back to normal in a few days unless you are keeping on eating wrong and I know some days I can put on 5lbs in a matter of minutes just from drinking a cup of coffee or a glass of water.

Steer the course, the payoff IS there!!

Right now I am staying clear of my scales. They SCARE ME! My clothes are feeling looser and I have tons of energy.

I have always lost weight extremely slowly, like a turtle. However, I hope to win the race eventually. My age, medications I HAVE TO TAKE for depression and stresses in my life right now all have an impact on "weight loss."

It is frustrating. I know the feeling all too well.

Keep on keeping on and don't give up.

Jo, I know some LCrs who only judge by measurements or clothing. Really, there are internet articles on Why Scales Lie! http://www.healthdiscovery.net/articles/scale_lies.htm This might help. Don't take what it says about salt, though. Unless you have BP trouble already. Heck, I have weighed myself, turned around and peed and was a half pund ligher. Now that is not going to happen unless I am peeing gold! (If I am the salami rounds are on me next time we all get together!) Really, it is okay and you probably will have what is affectionately called a WHOOSH of water gone in a day or so. You are doing well!!

Thanks for your help everyone.. it is now 3kgs gained not 4 today..

It is very hot and humid..I wonder if that could contribute..man I feel like my body is just crazy. My sister starts eating healthy and she loses weight like THAT. Me I am a turtle too. It is annoying how it takes forever for some ppl

my clothes feel the same. My measurements have gone up 1-2cm in some places.. I had a freak out as I measured myself and was 5cm up. But found out that I was using two different tape measurers. Who knew there would be such a huge difference in tape measures!

Not sure what the explanation is maybe because I dropped a bit in weight it bounced back to level out.who knows

I will just make sure that everything I eat has no hidden carbs and will monitor everything till i figure it out. Will keep trying.Don't want to give up

Thanks Arlene. I am just staying away from the scales for the time being. Yesterday was a better day and I enjoyed a long walk in the fresh air and then did some cross stitch in the afternoon with the fireplace roaring and my classical music playing. Shadow, our little schnauzer was tucked warmly into his basket by the fire and it was snowing outside.

I drank lots of hot green tea and had a good night's sleep and today our grandson Luke is coming for a visit. It is all good.TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE!!

I will check out that website this afternoon after Luke leaves. Thanks so much!

We had some good playtime with Luke but he was teething and poor little fellow was so sleepy. I changed him and put him in his little sleep sack and he slept for 3 solid hours. When he got up his little cheeks were so rosy and he had a big smile on his face, cuddled into grandpa's arms and had some milk and yogurt and watched ELMO on the computer. He is just adorable.

Here he is on his first birthday last September.......Attachment 126 He has a great sense of humour for his young age.

Another brother or sister is due this coming Friday, February 17th and we are excited about the new arrival.

Our son and daughter-in-law were not planning to have any children and now to be having two is indeed a blessing to us all!

    God is good!

Thank you. We are rpejudiced but think he is rather SPECIAL! Grandchildren are wonderful. We have a 9 year old granddaughter and 4 month old grandson in Ottawa which is about a 6 hour drive away.

    We miss them immensely!

Everything can affect my weight! Especially when the weather is very humid, anytime of the year. And it usually takes me a couple days for it to disappear, or for the humidity to move out. I also drink a lot of water and put decaf green tea bags in my huge cups. I like the taste and it's a natural diuretic. Same for dandelion tea. Good luck! Keep doing what your doing. You will lose this water weight! I lose weight slower due to some medication's I have to be on.
