    The miracle of Induction

Last week, before made the commitment to the Atkins lifestyle, I had to go to the ER for an asthma treatment. The fourth one in two months. My blood pressure was 180/123. So the next day I was seen by my primarty physician. He wasn't pleased with my weight or health and scheduled me to have a sleep apnea test, a chest x-ray and blood work up. After one week on induction, my weight is down by 2.5lbs and my blood pressure is down 40 points so he cancelled all the tests. He asked me what the miracle was and I told him I was on the Atkins diet. He said that was a fantastic choice and that Atkins was a genius well before his time.

yes, he had a lot of praise for the Atkins diet and he also knows about the evils of products that claim to help you with losing weight, that don't. He wanted to put me on a water pill to help me get rid of excess water weight more quickly but I had in my chart I was allergic to Sulfa. So he told me to stay away from any water pills, even over the counter ones, as they could cause me to go to into cardiac arrest!

OH MY GOODNESS. I wish you could clone him and send him around to the people who are fighting with their docs. Mine called what happened to me "new information" and he is now recommending it to all his patients who need to lose weight! Good lord, where has he been? This is no spring chicken here, he is close to retirement age! But at least he came around.

Mine very seriously told me to heed the dietitian (high carb, eat the crap food on this list I give you) - and that if I could get down to 100kgs (still morbidly obese!) I should be happy with that at my age!! Did I mention I was outraged - I go to a clinic & next time I will be asking for someone else.

As a fellow asthmatic I say good for you. Since starting Atkins I have been using my medihalers alot less. Joints really dont hurt much anymore either. We found I have a problem with white flour. I am looking forward to a healthier 55. Congrats for starting Atkins and I wish you well.
