    Atkins

    Hi,
I am new to this site and I am just finishing up induction phase - I started out @ 300 have lost 10lbs on induction and 40 lbs to go. I am going to stick with it another week because I am not sure how to smoothly transition to OWL 1. Does anyone have any advice? I have read the book and it says add 5 carbs of veggies, but do I only add the 5 in 3 days a week for 25g's total and the remainder of the week stays at 20g's? Also do I only add the veggies from list 1, or can it be an extra veggie from any of the 3 lists?

    I really appreciate your help!

    Cheers!

Hi and Congratulations on losing 10lbs!!!! Congratulations on joining too, it's a great site! I'm still on induction, have been for almost 4 weeks but I have much more to lose and find it much simpler. I can't answer your questions but plenty of people here can and will. I just wanted to welcome you

Welcome and congratulations on your 10 pound loss of weight. That is just great. Re:OWL.... Each week, dieters raise their carb level by 5 grams per day until the appropriate level is reached. Since more carbohydrate will be progressively added to the diet during this phase, Atkins recommends it be done in a priority order he calls the “Carbohydrate Ladder”, where more vegetables are the first foods to be added, and whole grains the last. Atkins provides lists of foods at 5 gm increments to help dieters figure out their daily menus.

This link might help you with your question, but i am sure others who have been here along time will be able to help you with your question. Good luck.

I will be doing Induction for a while yet. I lose weight very slowly at my age, but determination will get me there.

Thanks Joe. You are so correct when you say "one mini goal at a time." Slow and easy like the turtle I am.

    Have a great day!

Every little bit of encouragement goes such a long way to help us.

HI! Congrats on the 10lbs gone!!!

The website that Jo gave you is a good one. Many of us are staying at a lower carb level until we are closer to pre-maintance. I added 5 carbs of veges to my 20 a day so now I have allowed myself 25 a day. However, I am getting closer to my goal and I am adding in other things allowed on the OWL ladder but still within the 25 or so a day. I still get at least 10 a day from veges or fruit (I have ventured to blueberries!) I am happy here and think that I may stay at this level or about 30 carbs a day from now on. The most important thing to remember aobut the slow increase os to look for what may cause an increase of hunger or craving or a stall in losing. That is why it is done slowly.
