New to this Form somewhat New to Atkins

I started the Atkins diet on December 15 after a long talk with my doctor who said she would like to see my loose about 20 pounds. I would like to loose 30 pounds so we agreed on 25 and of course anything in between those numbers are okay too. I also want to run a half marathon this year and hopefully a full marathon next year. I went from not running at all to being able to run a 5K (baby steps). I know if I were to loose some weight it would help my running.

I did the Atkins diet a long time ago with my sister. I never really looked into the diet just did what she told me to do - we made our meals together so I just followed her. At that point in my life I needed to loose maybe 10 pounds (those DARN last 10 pounds). I did the Atkins induction phase for about 3 weeks - then quit and went FULL ON carb. I ended up gaining 35 pounds. It was horrible. I managed to loose the weight little by little. I also ended up having two babies in the last two years but my weight hasn't gone up but I still have about 25 pounds to loose to get myself where I need to be which is healthy.

So I started to do the induction phase on 12/15 and within the first week I lost over 5 pounds. Now this week I noticed that I haven't lost much at all. I will note that while I am at work I am able to bring my meals and snacks and I am pretty good about eating what I bring. With the holidays last week I took days off and being at home with a 1 year old and two year old I am not eating as much and I am not drinking as much water so that might have something to do with it.

If there are any suggestions or advice you have that can help along this phase I would really appreciate it. I plan on being in the induction phase for about 4 weeks total then moving onto the OWL phase.

    Welcome Notty!

Sounds like you've had a great start on Atkins. It took me 3 weeks to lose that much. I was losing inches though. My clothes were looser. My weight fluctuates a lot. Higher humidity, etc. I drink a LOT of water, very important, daily. It does help!

It sounds to me as if you are doing well! Keep it up!

Welcome.... it's not uncommon at all to lose the first week or two and then nothing. The beginning weight loss is often water (when you stop storing glycogen you lose water). After a week or so you'll start to lose again.

    Good luck, stay focused.
