    SleepyD's fat burning machine

3 weeks! and yes the thread title is not without some irony.

Lost a fair bit. It'll get tougher from here for sure.

I have been tracking Carbs and Calories with the Carbmanager App. I consider the "logged" calories and carbs to be close but not perfectly accurate. if i forget to log a snack or a nibble of something - i would say reality every day is 0-20% higher than what i have logged.

I have felt pretty good throughout. Yesterday after "pushing hard" and maybe feeling a little atkins fluey for a few days i had a more relaxed day, including some grapefruit and other veggies. Had a mid-night snack on saturday night (some salsa + greens)

I was thinking about laying back on the logging a little, since i have have a better sense (the count in my head) - BUT. now that i am looking at the graph, i think it is time for a little experiment.

...is it the carbs or is it the calories?

that sounds like fun. Here is a three week plan.

week 1. Calories up, carbs steady.
week 2. Calories steady, carbs up.
week 3. Calories down, carbs steady.

now lets go see if i have any more steak in the freezer.

It willbe great to see the results of your investigation. I love the carb manager app. it makes eating so easy.

-3lb in week 1. average about 24g net carbs. I found it a mostly futile effort to get to more than 2500 calories. Unless it is big slabs of meat, you can't get there without going over your carb count. And really who wants big slabs of meat everyday.

I'm finding sometimes a fatigue settling in late in the day - rendering me somewhat useless, which is really not acceptable from a parenting point of view. Especially after days with exercise. I think this is my body saying "umm there is not enough fuel in the tank buddy".

Lets see what week two does about that. I started with a mini carb fest - bag of doritos. But now i just want to eat the same relatively low carb foods as before without bothering to care about 20g's. Had a big whack of celery and dip for lunch.

Week one was supposed to be calories up, carb steady in your experiment I thought carbs would be stead at the recommeded level of 20. And if you don't keep track of EVERYTHING you eat, it is not a good experiment. You can't just nibble here and there. You are not training your mind and body to be on this plan for life if you are not going to go through boot camp. Come on, you are stronger than that. Now for week four and five, afte you experiment, go for the real Atkins plan, the one in the book and see what difference it makes. That would be a real experiment.

    Experiment Fails - Diet succeeds.

Whoa, had one of those life's curveballs in the last month.

My working world changed in a good way and my tracking methods and the time to spend on it went out the window.

My best observation though with the limited quality of the data i had was "Its not the calories, its not the carbs, it is both"

still slimming gradually and half way to my goal. I'm allowing some "cheats" but still sticking with the "I generally don't eat that" - which is my very casual kind of OWL i suppose.

    Happy new year friends!

After starting a new job last month, (and keeping the old one) i was time crunched and kinda went into stall mode on the diet plan for a few weeks. Christmas was approaching and i decided to "make a stand". I originally wanted to get to 230 by new years and lost 5 lbs over the last part of dec so that is a win.

I am still learning how to pilot my body dietary wise. There are some days where i get it right and have energy, no hungries, and when i get in the zone the pounds seem to drop away a few days later. So i made 234 (starting at 260). I am inspired by scotty mike and want to get to 220. (before my bday in march sounds like a decent target.) My wife made me some of the low carb flax bread (got the idea here) and it was pretty good actually.

I switched back to something more like induction after drifting somewhere in the 30-100 net carb range. Also have to take my doses of supplements religiously - when i do it all properly, it seems to work. I carried a little flask and was sipping whiskey at holiday events and limiting myself to one little bite of the treats. But keeping it going on a hectic schedule is tricky.

best wishes and keep on keepin on.
