What is the point of induction? (Super Low vs. Low carb)

Two weeks in, i am questioning the wisdom about staying in induction or moving on to OWL.

It really comes down to "what is the purpose of staying in induction".

I have concerns (re: mainstream medical opinions) about not eating enough veggies and fruits.

contemplating shifting target net carbs up from 20 to 40. target calories stays the same. I am only 25% of the way to my goal, but that was pretty good for two weeks.

bottom line, if i don't get the hungries, and my total calories stays near the target and gradual weight loss continues - this is good right?

    whatcha think?

No reason to stay in induction.

Some people find it simple and easy to follow.

Others like the increased selection of food in OWL. I might advise slower/smaller steps in carb increases. The Atkins book encourages 5 ng additions. Read up before you switch.

Congratulation on the initial loss. Keep up the good work.

Yes it's up to you. I stayed on my own version of 'induction' (not doing Atkins but carbs below 20g) for 3 months. If you increase carbs, you just lose more slowly; you have to do what suits you

    Thanks for the pointers.

After a little more experience, learning and heeding some advice, i don't think i will make any drastic changes. The first 10lbs went away fast but now seems more gradual. Feeling good and hunger free. Onward and downward!

Induction is meant to switch the body over to burning fat instead of carbs for energy. That is why it is scheduled for only 2 weeks.

Lots of people stay on it, or something very close to it, because it is pretty easy to follow and the weight loss is usually pretty excellent the whole time too. But it really depends on the person, how old you are, how overweight you are, how abused your body is.

Bump up the carbs and see how it works. You can always go back down to induction level if it doesn't work out for you.

I have been in induction since August 23 and just decided to allow myself another 5 carbs. The next level is more veges and I look forward to it. If I find that it slows my loss, I will cut back a bit. I probably won't eat all 25 enery day, but it is nice not to have to worry about eating 22 or 23. Some people get bored with what is allowed on induction, so they start on the levels as soon as they can.

I was on induction for a month the last time I tried low carb. I had more energy than when I started adding some carbs back. This time around, I'm staying on the induction for somewhat longer.
