Yes! Twenty gone and you are doing well! I like your goal, lol 'cause it is mine, too! I figure I will have this under control then and if I loose more that is frosting on the....well, you know, but it must be bad luck to mention it here! Lol
I am Arlene and Dr Mary Vernon says it best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaquSijXJkQ for me. I used to stand under my plum tree waiting for the fruit to ripen and fall, now I stand near a coconut tree.
"Let me have men about me that are fat, sleek-headed men and such as sleep a-nights. Yon Cassius has a lean and hungry look. He thinks too much. Such men are dangerous." William Shakespeare ++++++++++++ I pray, let me one of the dangerous.
Now that the holidays are finally over (kids went back to school yesterday and i am back to work today) i can start focusing on me and my woe, it has gone slightly astray over christmas and new year (not from food but alcohol). Luckily i have only gained 1lb which shouldnt be to hard to lose but do feel very sluggish. I am going back to induction for a few weeks to kick start the weight loss and am determind to lose half a stone (7lbs) by end of feb. I am thinking about entering a half marathon in march but as i havent run for about 4 months might just go for the 10k.![]()
161lb today. down 1lb, slow but steady, i cant complain!
if i could get some exercise in it would come off quicker but i just cant get motivated. i had an exam last night so now that that is over i can spare some time in the evenings to run, i really need a rocket up my butt to get me moving!!
One pound down is One less pound you have to carry when you run! Congrats to you! And good luck on your training!!!
eek sorry!
after a really bad few days i feel like i am starting again, (i have put on 4lbs to date) i have been reading online about ratios of fat to protein, and it appears i have been eating too much protein and not enough fat, that might explain a long stall i had between mid nov to xmas. But how do you eat more fat than protein? how do i plan a meal? i feel a bit like a beginner again.
I don't know much about the ratio business. I would say use more butter when you cook and more whip cream etc. but I'm no expert and have stumbled many times. It will all come back to you very quickly I'm sure.

It is a lot to take in. Too much protein causes spikes in insulin, like carbs so it needs to be watched too. The first two weeks of Atkins, they tell you to eat as much as you want, but then cut it down.
I have decided to go that way, less than 30 grams of carbs a day, less than 100grams of protein and the rest fat. I have done some research. too and found htis site to be the best explanation. http://waroninsulin.com/nutrition/what-i-actually-eat His blog is very good, some technical but good. I have read most of it. He is a long distance swimmer and he eats a LOT of calories. I have not gotten to the point yet, that I can let myself go to far wth the calories. Also this is a great interview to watch http://www.dietdoctor.com/ Scroll down until you find the interview with Dr Mary Vernon. She inspired me to keep my carbs low. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaquSijXJkQ
I have been using coconut oil for a while now, use it to scramble my eggs (You can use two full eggs and the yolk of another and get lots mroe fat that way). I use it to cook any veges that need cooking and I eat a Tbs with coconut and macadamia nuts for an evening snack. Some people stir it into hot drinks.
You can add olive oil to almost anything, and put a pat of butter on anything, even steak! I just had salmon and green beans for dinner with a TBS of clarified butter over it all. Extra YUM
You can modify the food on the websites to an Atkins like menu.
The thing to do is have a counter that tracks all this until you get used to the amounts. I am still tracking. I get the number of grams of fat, carbs and protein I eat in my ipad app. How do you track?
Fat has more calories so if you are tracking them, be aware. but you won't get hungry as often.
Good luck.
Arlene do you know if there is an app for iphone that will track all that?
"The first two weeks of Atkins, they tell you to eat as much as you want, but then cut it down."
Hmmm... it's more of a "eat til satisfied" rule. Often times, all someone wants is way more than they need. And once you start adding carbs back in OWL, you really have to watch the fat intake. You can't stay at the high fat intake of Induction.
there is a lot to take in and to be honest i havent read the book as much as i should, i dont count anything and just blagged it really. but after having a bad 3 day carb fest and feeling really awful and tired, i have woken up to the fact this really is a way of life for me. i have gone over my meals and have discovered that i really am having too much meat and without realising am not using as much fat as i should have been. so i am starting fresh and doing more research on what to eat (thanks Arlene for links) and i hope the last 19lbs will come off. Allie i am sure it will start coming off as i am feeling more positive now and that stumble i have just come out of really made me feel quite ill so back to the drawing board for me and hopefully there will be less of me to report on very soon![]()
Yes, Allie, i use CARB MANAGER. There are others but this one tracks net carbs an you can put a limit on them in the settings so it will tell you if you go over b showing the line in red! LOL Or you can track other things as well, protein, ect.
I LOVE it. You can put in special foods, look items up and create a list of favorites that you use often. I use it everyday. Invaluable tool for me.
