What I learned from asia about exercise

The chinese don't use exercise to keep their weight ideal. They use their diet. Someone gaining weight is considered a health problem. Exercise is long walks and oodles of stretching and slow movements. I saw 70 year old women doing the splits. They take the gentle approach to fitness which I agree with.

I have practiced Tai Chi for about five years, and it has helped me immensley. If I am succeeding at my weight loss, then I must credit meditation and Tai Chi for giving me the focus and confidence to persevere.

Exercise should never be used for weight loss, here is why:

The more you weigh, the more calories you burn. The amount of calories you burn per mile is equal to double your weight in pounds divided by 3.5. For example, if you weigh 175 lbs., you burn 2 X 175 = 350/ 3.5 = 100 calories per mile. Since there are 3500 calories in a lb of body fat, a 175 lb. person needs to walk 35 miles. Good luck.

This is also the Primal way. Long slow exercise as part of everyday life, with occasional sprints in 'emergencies'. Unfortunately this option is not available to all - with busy lifestyles and work schedules often intruding.
