    Hi Arlene,

I haven't been on here much lately but I was just wondering how you made out with your weigh in? It was yesterday wasn't it?

I've been getting a bit too brave with adding things in and am noticing it. I've put on almost a lb this week. I'm losing my groove and screwing up my 2lb average. LOL

    Hope you had good news!

I decided not to weigh in this week. Life has been screwy, family here and all.(Had soooo much fun with grandsons and daughter here!) I have stayed on plan except for one day off, but have not exercised. I am not going to beat myself up or feel guilty about my numbers, so I will weigh in next week when I am back in the goove.

I was wondering about calories and an estimate of how many I can have to maintain. Again I am reminded just how little we know about how our bodies work. Atkins had it right, you have to do it yourself, add a bit back at a time and see what happens. There is not one general rule that works the same for everyone.

I googled and went to the three top sites to calculate the calories needed to maintain 150 lbs and 140 lbs and got three different answers.

Two asked for amount of exercise, I said moderate.
    To maintain 150lbs 1764 kcalories
to maintain 140 lbs 1697 kcalories

    next site
    maintain 150 lbs 1927.5 kcalories
    maintain 140 lbs 1863 kcalories

This site did not ask for amount of exercise
    maintain 150 lbs 2523 kcalories
    maitain 140 lbs 2355 kcalories

Now you KNOW which one I WANT to believe, but I know in my heart there is no way I can eat that much and maintain. Sigh, back to experimenting, adding and watching.

Oh, by the way, I have done more reading on Intermitant Fasting and have decided to try skipping lunch several times a week. I eat breakfast at about 6:30 and usually eat dinner at 5:30 so that is 11 hours of fasting. I want to see how hard it is to do without giving in to a snack. Dr Mike Eades likes this idea, he says, if you are not hungry then skip a meal! REMEMBER, I am almost at goal and experimenting, if you do this and find you are stalling, then your body does not like this.
I am Arlene and Dr Mary Vernon says it best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaquSijXJkQ for me. I used to stand under my plum tree waiting for the fruit to ripen and fall, now I stand near a coconut tree.
"Let me have men about me that are fat, sleek-headed men and such as sleep a-nights. Yon Cassius has a lean and hungry look. He thinks too much. Such men are dangerous." William Shakespeare ++++++++++++ I pray, let me one of the dangerous.

I am so glad you had fun with your grandsons and your daughter. So you had one day where you were "off plan." You are doing so well.

I was thinking that perhaps my "stall" is due to the fact that I just don't get hungry and many days I only eat breakfast and dinner and a little snack such as celery with a bit of cream cheese on it mid-day.

I drink lots of water and love my green tea!

I try to keep within the 20 carb range but some days cannot even get up there despite the fact that I love vegetables and especially broccoli and cabbage.

I know that I won't be able to ever go higher than perhaps 30 net carbs per day and still maintain a good weight for ME!

I would be happy to maintain a 130 pound weight. I need to lose 21 pounds to get there.

I will be getting lots more exercise in the summer months which are fast approaching.

My DH bought me some lovely Almond Flour yesterday and I plan to make some muffins today just for a treat.

I also bought the Dana Carpender SLOW COOKER RECIPE BOOK and have a meatloaf from there planned for dinner tonight. My husband and eldest son are both helping me which really is a bonus for me.

I made a lovely dinner with Shirataki Tofu Fettucine, accompanied with a Caesar Salad (less croutons for moi)the other night and it was a HIT even with my DH who loves pasta and wasn't quite sure he would enjoy this. Even better the next day and he finished it for his lunch!

    Have great day Arlene!

I did many days where I did not get to 20 carbs a day and was happy doing it that way. That is why I will probably keep it do about 30 from now on. I just don't need them. I think you may need to look at calories now, You are not very heavy and if you want to lose more, then do the carbs at about 20 to 30 and about 1200 to 1300 calories. Try for a week and see what happens. I kept mine at 1200 for weeks and then ranged from 1200 to 1500 until a few weeks ago.

We have changed out ideas of what we need. I made some muffins in a minute with almond flour and almond flavoring = almost sinful! I may make some and use them as nightly treats.

About that, I understand, for myself, that I will not give up those nightly treats so include them in my daily plan. They are a part of my menu, so what I have, I plan for during hte day.

Thanks Arlene. I am off to make the muffins now. At night i just like a little something with my herbal green tea prior to bedtime. I think I will adjust this recipe with a bit of Vanilla which the recipe does not call for and see how they turn out.

What I enjoy the most about Low Carb eating is that there are SO MANY CHOICES. I have never been a fan of bread or doughnuts or chocolate, but enjoy the savoury things and I love Avocadoes and smoked salmon. A little cheese satisfies me but I don't miss it if I don't have it. I enjoy salads and eating out is not difficult for me even though we seldom do it!

    I'll experiment a little.

Yes, the new baby is on my mind big time and I''ll let you know when it arrives. Of course one worries until the actual birth and my thoughts are with my DIL and my son and of course the new baby!!

    Thanks for you post!

I will look in later Jo, for the news.

I am off to do a bit of shopping and then back to cook up two pounds of bacon and a few muffins. I don't think I will be able to skip lunch today! LOL! See you all later.

Thanks for your good wishes Arlene. I doubt this baby will make its debut until tomorrow. Tracy had a 29 hour labour with Luke after being induced TWICE. He was two weeks late!

I will definitely post with a picture!

    Enjoy your muffins and bacon.

I just finished my Morty's Mixed -Up Meat Loaf and it is int he slow cooker and the Almond flour muffins are cooling on a rack and smell scrumptious!

I am shaking as i type this.....too much excitement for this old gal!

    Hugs.

I started my intermittent fasting today. After a lot of reading, I found many ways to fast. Some fast from dinner to breakfast on the third day, 36 hours, some fast 24 hours, some fast and eat during a set period, say only from 5pm until 10 pm. I am going to skip breakfast when I can and eat lunch about noon, giving me about 14 hours of fasting.

Some IFers eat anything they like, including junk food, when they are eating and use fasting as a diet so they can eat that way. I am going to stay LC because I find I do better on it and like it. I found most who commented were young, too. One I read makes his dinner on Sat night wine! LOL

Both Dr.s Eades tried it on themselves, found it worked for them to skip breakfast and it sounds good to me. http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/i...better-health/
I thought long and hard, and figured out that I do not want to fast longer than this and if it works and I don’t give in to eating, then it may be something I can do long term.

Many comments that I read in many blogs were all in favor of fasting, and scientific reports show it is good for our bodies in many ways. I first heard about it several years ago (rats fasting live longer, etc.) but never thought I want to even think seriously about it. Now I find myself here, will wonders never cease?

My reasoning for doing this is as an experiment. I did read one comment, by a young woman, who said she fasted, lost weight and then when she returned to normal eating she gained it all back. It is like any way of eating or dieting, if you return to what you ate before your weight will return.
Honestly, I want to see if I lose more weight AND how I feel. I don’t know if I will want to keep it up, I guess all that will be decided at the end of the month.

Many people skip breakfast. I always thought I would not be able to. In the past, a late breakfast meant that I would get the shakes and sweat. I think that was a problem when I had high morning glucose and type 2 diabetes. Now my fasting blood sugar is below 100 so I don’t think that will be a problem.

The biggest problem right now is that I am thinking about it and find I am hungry! Oh and I fixed my DH breakfast this morning. LOL I am going to be doing that when he is home but when he travels it will be easier. I also LOVE bacon and eggs and was in a quandary. I suddenly realized, I am ALWAYS trying to figure out what to have for lunch so why not have my bacon and eggs or something else breakfasty then? Sounds like a great idea to me!!!!! DUH! Takes a while in this older brain sometimes. Wonder if IF will fix that? LOL

I do like my evening snacks so I will continue them. However, I am going to make them lighter. I have been having shredded coconut, coconut oil and macadamia nuts. Now I am going to have sf jello with whipped cream or some even allow myself an Atkins bar. (Yippee!) I had made that decision earlier because I decided that what I was having seemed heavy. I will work my coconut oil in elsewhere and make some macaroons with my coconut. Others have found that even if they keep the same calorie count in the eating periods that they had before or even tried to eat that and the amount they skipped, that they still lost weight. I am just going to eat what I would eat normally, but maybe have my macadamia nuts in my salads. LOVE those nuts! LOL

Of course, I will not miss any weight that decides to come off, and have had a LONG talk with myself about this. If I decide to not continue fasting, some of the weight will come back. I have to be okay with this and not let it trigger continued eating. I have a month to work on that.

I weighed myself this AM to start.

    153.8 Lbs

I will report in as I go.

    9:30 am and 2 ˝ hours to lunch…… LOL

Got to lunch at 12pm on the first day without eating! And I even went grocery shopping! I had leftover chicken and faux potatoes, tasted so good, and now I am full.

We are going to a movie, will eat dinner late, so I am taking a cheese stick and a few slices of salami as a snack.

    And so it starts.

I will pray for your friend that everything goes well with this birth. How terrible for the hospital to cause a baby's death!!!

My first day without breakfast, a short fast, was not too bad! Now I know, to some people who HATE breakfast, this is no big deal, but for me, I LOVE my first meal of the day, it is going to be a challenge.

I was hungry, have to tell you the truth. I had to leave the house to get away from the fridge and where did I go? THe GROCERY store! LOL Oh well.....

I think it is going to be okay, even on the days I stay home and can't get away, I do have pretty good will power (especially when I know I can have eggs or a MIM at 12!).

I ate a normal lunch, was filled up, went to a movie with DH and took a cheese stick and four slices of salami to snack on as dinner was going to be late, only ate the salami, then had a bunless burger. I was pretty hungry for dinner. I added up my calories and even with a snack of SF jello, 1/3 c cottage cheese and 1/2 oz of macadamia nuts, about 8:30pm I was at about 1340 calories and 11 net carbs.

I can see where that migh be a plus or minus. Plus if I continue to lose or minus if I stall. Just have to wait and see!

This AM I walked with my buddies, 6 miles, and had breakfast with them. A 3 egg omlette and bacon. I am stuffed and will skip lunch.

I have decided to give up breakfast 6 days a week, I go to the gym four of those morning, so I will see how that goes.

    I'll keep you informed.
