About 13 years ago my daughter was married and I looked like a (well dressed) WHALE. I was so ashamed when I got the wedding photos that I rushed straight to my Doctor and undertook his "sensible, low calorie" diet. I lost 44kg - about 97 pounds. Photos below.
Unfortunately, by following this 'safe, sensible' diet, I also lost a significant proportion of my hair, my sanity, and ultimately 30% of my lung function - he had prescribed Sibutramine (Reductil) to 'help' me and I had a Pulmonary Embolism. A friend, aged 39, fared far worse - she had a very serious stroke. Another friend who was in her late 50's died, her lungs just could not cope with her PE.
After twelve years I'd gained nearly all the weight back, but at least I had hair again! This time round I am sticking with the 'dangerous' high protein, low carb diets. I'm nearly halfway to my goal (44 of 100 pounds gone) and still have hair and fingernails!
More photos will be posted soon, I hope. In my original before (left), when I was 51 years old, 110+ kg; the next one with my first grandchild was less than two years later - I was 53, 62 kg. On the right was one taken last year at dog obedience, 62 years old, 100kg! I evidently hid successfully until I had lost 8kg, as I was 108.4 kg when I started again.
