Am I eating the right things?

Hello everybody, I am new to Atkins and on my 3rd day. This is what I have eaten over the last three days, am I on the right track?

    Day 1

Breakfast - mushroom and cheese ommlete (2 eggs, 3 mushrooms and a little bit of grated cheddar
Lunch - salad with some left of roast pork (lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, cucumber) with a bit of mayo
Dinner - chilli con carni with salad (homemade with chopped tomatoes, 1/2 courgette and 1 celery stick) chilli flakes etc...

    Day 2

Breakfast - same as day 1
    Lunch - same as above
Dinner - sirloin steak with creamy garlic mushrooms, salad and a tablespoon of baked beans (mushrooms with creme fraiche and garlic)
Snacks - 2 baby bells and a bit of pate on lettuce leaves

    Day 3

Breakfast - 2 scrambled eggs with 3 small rashers of bacon
Lunch - salad with feta cheese
Dinner - Roast chicken leg with 1 leek and mushrooms in creamy sauce, 5 spears of asparagus and 1 table spoon of peas
Snacks - 2 x baby bells, 1 x peperami stick, celery sticks with a bit of pate

I am on the induction phase, does all of this look ok???

NEED FEEDBACK - Atkins book doesnt arrive for another 2 days!

Have you been to their website? (http://www.atkins.com/Homepage.aspx) Your menu looks pretty good (but I'm not sure about the chili or baked beans). Also, once you get the book, READ IT. It makes such a difference if you read the science behind it rather than skipping to the "what can I eat" part. Good luck! And... if the chili and baked beans are induction-friendly and contain the ingredients in those parentheses, I want recipes!!

Looks OK to me but you might have hidden carbs. Creamy sauce - are you making that yourself? If you are not then it almost certainly is thickened with some kind of flour and even a tiny portion will take you over your carb allowance. Check the ingredients. Mayo too - some brands have a lot of sugar in, always check. Baked beans oh nonono...not on induction, no beans of any kind - including peas. These are added back in later stages. They contain a lot of starch=carbs. Tomatoes you can have but in small amounts - they are really a fruit, remember. One medium tomato is about 1.6grams carbs and it is easy to eat half a dozen in a sauce.
Mostly though that looks pretty good to me - just beware of the hidden stuff. Keep in touch here, loads of people have experience and ideas you can use

Welcome! Good you have ordered the book. Read it thoroughly and keep it near you for quick referrals.

Check out the website Kim has posted.

You can have Chilli Con Carne and this is an excellent recipe which I made again last night and the whole family enjoys it:http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/sw_chili_con_carne.html

All the recipes here that have an asterisk * behind them are Induction friendly. The cheddar biscuit seen with the chilli is not allowed.

    Good luck!

    thanks

    Hi Everyone,

Many thanks for your replies, I have now stopped eating any beans or peas.

My creamy sauces I make myself so no flour etc...

Got my book now, so feel much more supported.

I will definately try the chilli recipe, I am making chilli for a bunch of friends on Wednesday and was wondering how to do it without lots of tomatoes!

I am finding myself having to eat a lot of cheese on Atkins - this is fine because I LOVE cheese but I wish I could think of alternative snacks to avoid too much cheese. Any ideas?? I am eating a lot of pepperami too which I am now finding rather boring! Please help!

How are you getting on Rhian?
Keep some sliced ham or cold chicken always in the fridge and wrap with lettuce/spring onions/celery for a snack

Wow that chile con carne recipe looks delicious. On atkins phase 1 you can really have that?

You're right, Judith... beans are not a low carb food.

FYI... this is an old thread (last June/July) so you probably won't get a response from anyone who has a comment in it. But that's ok. It's always good to revisit posts that answer questions!
