    I need help!

I've fallen off the wagon big style.. most of it was from comfort eating I'll admit..
I was on induction sucessfully for 18days (this was after being on and off for monthhs) and then I finally thought Im getting the hang of this !
Then my last day of college came, my ex effectively cheated on me and it all went downhill from there, this was 5 days ago !!!
I have a holiday in 22days that I plan to be looking fitt for, but im seriously lacking motivation!
I'm sorry to moan, but I need help getting into ketosis quick - this carb overloads making me feel a little sick and pretty sure its messing with my heart :/

    Some numbers:
    Age - 17
Weight - 66kg (after the 5 day binge was 64kg prior)
    Height - 1.72m

    Thaaaaaankyou x

First of all... welcome. So glad you found us!

Next... take DEEP breath. You're okay. You're going to be better than ok soon. Slow down. Take another DEEP breath. Alright? Feel better?

Now... you've gained a little bit in five days. Not a lot. What you've gained is most likely water weight. You've kicked yoursef out of ketosis so your body is now using glucose for energy. Excess glucose is stored as glycogen in your muscles and organs. That's ok. We're designed that way. The thing is, to keep the glycogen in storage your body needs water. 2g of water per gram of glycogen. So best case scenario is 2/3 of your "gain" is water. 1/3 is glycogen. If you overate, some of it could be fat... but not a lot of it because it takes 3500 excess calories to add a pound of fat. SO... most of what you've "gained" is a result of switching back to a metabolism based on glucose. In a way, that "loss" is really misleading... you didn't lose fat when you lost the weight, any more than you gained fat when your weight went up this week.

Now... at your height (1.72m = 5'7") you are VERY close to an ideal weight already. I GET that close isn't always good enough... especially for a holiday when you've just broken up with a boyfriend under less than ideal circumstances. I GET THAT. I just want to tell you that when you're "this close" to an ideal weight, you can't lose fast. If you do, it's not fat you're losing. And that's not healthy. We're our own worse critics. Try looking in a mirror and pretending you're a friend looking at your body... you'll see that, honestly, you're "fine". Actually, at 17, I bet you're way more than "fine". Some day you'll look back on this body you have today and kick yourself for not appreciating it more!!! You can lose a little before your holiday... exercise to feel stronger and firmer. Work on your thoughts and feelings, too. You deserve to feel GOOD about your body right now. Don't let anyone, not even YOU, make you feel otherwise.

If you need support here... speak up. We're pretty good at that. LOL As for getting back into ketosis... maybe you don't need to do that. You're close enough to an ideal weight that you don't really NEED to go there. You could start in Phase 2... and work your way quickly into pre-maintenance.

Hope you're feeling better about things.

    Tril

    Hey tril
Omg that's suchh a great help - water weight I can deal with.. I hope lol! But does that mean the weight I initially lost was just water weight anyway ? :/

I know, I knoww, I'm being sort of silly, but I kinda can't help it now, I feel guilty (even work myself up into getting upset) if I so much as eat a handful of nuts..
I think I'm going to go induction uptil my holiday and then start something sustainable soon as I'm back, do you think this'll work okay?
I do quite a bit of exercise too to tone, I dont want to end up skin and bones lol

Don't panic, and whatever you do, don't feel guilty! That is no way to live your life - and if you are anything like me it can turn into a vicious cycle of guilt, bingeing to erase the guilt, more guilt, and so on.....

If you have a handful of nuts on Atkins it's no big deal. If you have an ice-cream, so what? Enjoy it, learn from it, and get back on plan with your very next meal. If I have learnt anything with this way of eating, it's don't feel guilty about falling off plan, and get right back on it at the very next opportunity! That way you keep going and never give up - no matter how many "detours" you may take on the way. Just keep moving forward

Guilt has no place in relation to food. Guilt is for when you do something WRONG. Food is not wrong. Eating it is not wrong. Sure, there are times when we could have made a better choice... for our health. But seriously... think about it.... is eating a handful of nuts wrong? NO. If you feel like it is... work on that. It's not a good place to be and like Shingi said, it's no way to live.

How much did you lose? Initially, the fast weight loss is often water. If you were eating a high carb diet, this is especially true.

At your height, weight and AGE... focus on the good stuff in your life. You don't need Induction. Cut out the junk food. Make better choices... have a salad every day, drink lots of water, eat lean meats/cheese/eggs, exercise and be active. At 17 your body will respond to this!

I understand exactly what you're saying, I know I'm being stupid, its just I heard so many good things about the Atkins way. But maybe I don't need induction at all..
This is so confusing, I'm going to take your advice for a week or so and see how I feel I'm fed up of feeling rubbish if I so much as look at a bread roll lol !
