Switching over to monthly reports from weekly. Still tracking, etc.
Another month has come and gone. And I continue to hold at about 220, well 223 to be more accurate. My stall continues for 7 to 12 weeks depending on how you want to look at my progress.
Guess I will have to change things to make more progress. Most likely work on greatly reducing my nut/fruit consumption, my current excess. Working again has helped reduce the amount of food that I am consuming during the day. But still like to snack.
Generally eating on plan. Eating with the wife means some carb meals. But not total disasters. I will have to work on that also.
Thanksgiving was mostly under eventful. I ate well except for jelly beans. Boy do I like jelly beans. I am very good about a lot of items that I used to eat, but jelly beans are not one of them.
Tried a little bit of exercising -- not yet ready to go to a daily or even every other day regime. Part of it is due to daylight or lack of it in the great NW. I am leaving for work in the dark and arriving home in the dark. Not very conducive to exercising outdoors. In addition, it is the raining season. The good news is I have access to an exercise room. I have to check it out and see if it can be worked into the schedule.
Still want to get down to 200 for the start of the new year. Obviously not likely. But even 210 or 215 would be a big step in that direction. And I am talking about 4 weeks!!! Bought some smaller clothes, so want to fit well in them. Again, a couple of pounds is a big deal at this point.
Scottie Mike, It looks like you have gotten a good idea of where you need to be to maintain. ARGH, but that is not where you want to be right now! You have done such a good job getting to where you are now, backing up a bit will not be too much of a burden. The work will be in tracking. I think you will find some hidden carbs, (did I say jelly beans????) LOL
At least you know where to go and how from here. I hope for your success in getting to 215 before the end of the year!
Bluehex!!! What a great idea!!!!! Easy peasy jelly beans! Oh yes, they make sugar free jelly beans but if you eat too many you have to spend the day in the bathroom! LOL
Oh my gosh, I think they would be triggers for me... too good!

Another month and almost net zero change, well +.5 lb. Not too bad for the holidays.
So 4 months at the same weight, more or less. More accurately, constant for 2.5 months and then up 3 pounds from Thanksgiving to New Years.
I am eating well still. Mostly very health and fairly far up the OWL rungs -- meat, eggs, cheese, salads, vegetables, nuts, berries, legumes, and now adding some fruit. Still eating too many carbs. My biggest offender is movie popcorn. Definitely too much. And I like eating nuts and raisins -- lots of nuts and raisins. Spending working hours away from home, so eating better during the daytime. I tend to graze during the evenings. However, I have been redirecting that towards protein and cheese. And lesser quantities of other things.
Been watching the Discovery Fit & Health marathon on the 1 Jan. Good news is I am working on all the things that I should be doing except exercise. What can be taken away from the programs is that there are a lot of methods to losing weight. Most are very long term. Equally interesting is that many people can get down to a reasonable but still high weight rapidly, then that last 30-50 pounds is a real struggle.
A friend's family is attempting to do a "biggest loser" competition for the first 3 or 4 months of 2012 - with a cash payout at the end. My loving wife is thinking about joining them. This may be very good for us both.
Still looking to get down to 200 pounds. Still dedicated but not sure how much I want to change what I am eating now.
Good to see you Mike. Glad to hear your wife may join you! That will make things a bit easier for you, for sure.
I know about nuts, I tend to go to them for snacks, too. Have to just remember to get a peice of cheese, but it is nice ot have that bit of crunch.

Another month -- and a jump in weight. Alas.
My worst offense has been fruit in general and specifically raisins. I really like eating lots of them. So, I am retreating a rung or so. Mostly looking at removing fruit/raisins from my food list. I am working on being more aggressive and less laissez faire on my carb counting. I feel for all the people that have to be so extremely tight on what their carb count, etc. I still will be eating lots of nuts (my current vise). Fortunately that is having less of an impact.
Still want to get to my weight down -- 200 is still the current agenda. Although given my current weight, more realistic is getting back to 220.
In addition, I had gotten away from weighing myself. That has always been there to monitor my eating. I have found it to be a useful tool. So back to daily weighing.
I did get a blood workup:
- Total Cholesterol:.............201 mg/dl .... ( good is <200)
- HDL................................ 68 mg/dl......( >60)
- LDL ...............................114 mg/dl .....(<100)
- Triglycerides:....................95 mg/dl .....(<150)
- Fasting glucose: ...............98 mg/dl .....(<100)
Except for my LDL, I am looking very good. My natural Total Cholesterol is/has been higher. So even that is looking slightly better.
My blood pressure is a little high, depending on when I measure it. But overall -- normal. Again I am going back to more regular monitoring.
Still not exercising. Good news is winter is over in Washington. We had our 6-9 inches of snow, and 48 hours of power outages. Now on to spring. It is already becoming light later in the day and earlier in the morning. And starting to warm. Golf season is right around the corner (late March here). So maybe, just maybe, i can start working out again.

So now you know what you need to do to get back to losing again. As I have told others, we must experiment to find what works for us. I am sure you are not happy right now, but you should be. You are still committed to this way of eating. Others would have gone off and not come back. Hurrah for you. It will be good to see you reach your goal, I have no doubts you will, now.

Well another month of progress.
Hard getting started on a downward path. Lots of ups and downs. I was hoping for more loss. Alas. But I think I am starting down. Often see my high weight of the day less than the start of the month.
Eating well. Cut back on fruits and extra nuts. I need to still reduce that a bit more, I think, to make some headway. Still like to graze while at home especially at night or when nervous.
Starting to get back into golf. Visiting the range. Interesting what happens when you remove the stuff (read fat) that keeps you from twisting. Will be interesting to see how that affects my game on the course. Hopefully it will warm enough to get me onto the course. Really have a hard time golfing when below 45. Course here are still pretty soggy.
Looking into getting a bike. The wife wants to do a little riding. I did ride decades ago and found it relaxing. After getting over the initial sticker shock, I have to decide what I want to spend. I think I want a nice road bike -- may splurge on a low-end carbon frame. Suggestions are welcome.
Life is generally good. Taking Smokie, the beardie to show training classes. I and he are progressing well. Interesting showing a big(ger) dog. We have 5 5-week old scottie puppies in the house. They are quite funny, especially the one that like sleeping on top of the heating vents. Their teeth are a bit too sharp. I cannot walk around the house without shoes or they bite your toes.
Still looking to get back down to 220. Unlikely by the end of March, but one never knows.
You are rolling along not too badly - .5+lbs p/wk is good. Slow & steady wins the race!

ScottieMike! Good to see you are back on the road down. Even through the hard period of gaining a bit you stayed true and knew what you had to do to get back to losing. Just remember that you will be able to add back in some of those nuts and fruit soon.

One year anniversary. What can be said? I am glad (proud) that I am continue to work at this. I am down to where I was about 6 months ago after a gain in between. I am disappointed that I am not closer to 200. But I am able to eat well almost every day. Even my non-plan items are small.
Monthly report:
I continue to work on the weight. Slowly changing what I am eating. I have not quite gotten to the fruit rung. I just eat too much fruit if it is around. Reduced the amount of nuts from my 2.5 lb over 7 days to somewhere between 9 and 10 days. Obviously not a huge change. But I seem to be dropping. My biggest revelation is that I am eating dinner late in the day. Thus I have a big gap between lunch and dinner which I tend to fill with snacks. So, I goal is to eat less during that interval. In addition, I have tried to up my water consumption. It has been dropping. Not sure why that helps but it does.
Strange month for weight loss. Lots of days at 226, once at 225 but never on weighing day til today. Apparently I am moving down. So good.
A little bit of exercise. A bunch of trips to the driving range, a (poor) round of golf (still very soggy and cool in the NW), and walking a little. Nice to play golf and not end up sore and stiff that day and the next. I did notice that my golf shoes fit better -- less snug. I guess women notice this. Personally, I like wide shoes. I never really tied shoes being tight and my weight.
Of course, this level of exercise is nothing like what I was doing a year ago. But something. Too wet and cold for most outdoor activities for a couch potato. Still no bike -- maybe this month.
I got a (Australian) boneless leg of lamb today. Lamb is relatively uncommon here. See how that goes. I generally like making and eating roasts.
Lamb is a great meat Scottie, cook it medium at least, it is not good rare - just slightly pink in the middle is excellent. Nice to cut & come again when cold too.
Losing weight is a never ending battle, & the key for me has been the exercise - swimming & for the last week walking as well - & using the Cron O meter (see my journal) for recording. While I use it mainly as a guide and don't stress if I go over, it helps me with the carb count especially.
Scotty, so good to see you back, it is the 1st of course! As you have learned this is a way of living, and you are learning how to live it. The "normal" for our age is to gain weight. You are still losing. Hurrah!
