prediabetic -- is this a good plan?

    Hi
I was diagnosed prediabetic about a year ago and now am facing another glucose test. Pretty sure he will say I am type 2 diabetic this time! Obviously I DONT want to be diagnosed as diabetic SO thought I would try Atkins for 6 months THEN take the test.

I did have one question after reading the book....is it possible to have an apple a day with breakfast....I usually have flax seeds, creme fraiche, seeds, and half an apple for breakfast.........well, at the moment I am only having 10 almonds as I cant face breakfast. I KNOW what everybody says about eating a BIG breakfast with eggs.

I have read SO much stuff, most of it contradicts the last thing I wrote I am SO confused and SCARED about this.

I saw a recipe for flax seed bread, just ground flax seeds and eggs....so i could have that instead of the apple I guess....

Last time I tried this I was majorly constipated and got so fed up with MEAT, as I cant eat cheese, pork, or shell fish, but that was before I was prediabetic.....I dont have any way to check my blood sugar so will just have to do it and then check it out with a blood test at the doc's.

Also is anyone taking Alpha Lipoic Acid? this has a really good write up but dont know it was just the guy selling it?
    thank you for your help

May I make a suggestion? Someone who is pre-diabetic would do really well to read the book called "Type 2 Diabetes - The First Year" by Gretchen Becker. I've run into doctors and CDEs (certified diabetic educators) and registered dieticians that don't understand and explain things as well as the author of this book does.

This is an arguable opinion, but Type 2 diabetes is a disease of impaired carbohydrate metabolism. It is secondary to the primary issues of insulin resistance (which is likely a genetic factor in most cases) and hyperinsulinism. You can't fight with the genes, nor how your pancreas will react, but you can certainly control the carbohydrates you consume. If you don't, your pancreas gets tired, and you progress through stages of pre-diabetes and finally diabetes.
