    Odille's (Analog6) progress. A bit like the Rake's Progress but better I hope!

    I first did Atkins first in Sept 2005 and went from 131 kgs (288.5 lbs, 20st 8lbs) to 120 lgs (264.25 lbs, 18st 12lbs) in the 2 weeks of Induction and then down to 101.5 kgs (223.5 lbs, 15st 13lbs) after 5 months.

    I felt wonderful and in the process discoverred I had a sever intolerance to gluten. I had suffered from it all my life, with symptoms of:
    • migraine and headaches - this was the worst for me, 53 years of 1-3 migraines a week - Mum told me from about 8 months I used to bash my head against the cot bars and scream!
    • constant stomach aches, feeling like I had swallowed a large brick and it was stuck in my chest
    • urinary urgency (I was always wanting to 'go')
    • eczema and other itchy skin rashes;
    • nasal congestion (stuffy or runny nose);
    • depression, unexplained tiredness, impairment of memory and concentration; tachycardia (fast heart beat);
    • irritability, restlessness, inattention, difficulty settling to sleep, night waking.

    When I'd been on Atkins for about a week my dear OH pointed out to me that I hadn't had a migraine since I'd been on that 'weird diet' - and I realised he was right. I had a 3 day headache rather than 'Induction flu' but once that cleared - I have not had a migraine since Sept 2005 - it was like being let out of jail.

    Then I had a car accident and lost the plot and have crept back up to 121.2 kgs (266.9 lbs, 19st 1lb). I've had a couple of spurts at restarts and just lost the plot totally. It is hard that the dear OH, although overweight, doesn't want to join me.

    But with returning leg pains, back aches and feeling absolutely bl00dy awful all the time, I am currently eating less carbs for a week and plan to leap into Induction next week. IT has really started to interfere with my life again, and I don't want to be a fat corpse.

    So wish me luck. I will post my weight on Monday (Sun US time, we are GMT+10, but with DST +11 ATM) and go on from there.

    GOOD LUCK, Odille!!! You have a lot of really good, motivating reasons to do this.... and I honestly had to LOL at your "fat corpse" comment. That's often motivated me!!!

    Well, on the first day of my Induction good old Murphy has kicked in and my digital scales have decided they don't want to work. The light comes on but the weight in the handpiece is not showing, it just the time. And the car is making expensive noises!

    So, I weighed myself 2 days ago and was up a bit so I will have to take that weight which was 122.0, off to change ticker

    Love love love the fat corpse idea - that is pretty powerful!

    Don't worry if the scales aren't working - I find I can lose inches when the scales don't move at all... it can be demoralising so maybe a blessing in disguise?!

    The good thing is you KNOW this works for you and you are all fired up. Good luck!

    Going well, stuck to exactly 20 carbs yesterday - even hough my OH had CHIPS with his dinner! I made him hide them out of my reach LOL! And I woke up with the carb headache, not too bad though. I have cut my morning cup of coffee (i only have a real one in the morning) by half, I was using a 450ml mug and I have cut back to a smaller one. So all going swimmingly at the moment.

    Could have been a caffeine headache... from cutting your intake in half. Those are the worst headaches. Makes a hangover look like a walk in the park. LOL Hope you're feeling better!

    Chips? In front of your eyes? Isn't that horrible? Well my hubby uses to drink wine at nights 2-3 times a week and ...i envy him so much. But I'm teling myself that the glass of wine will only last for some time, while my new body is here to stay? So you might try this kind of positive thinking.Imagine how happy you'll be when you will get close to your goal. No packet of chips, or cake or whatever can make you that happy!

    Galadriel, he drinks wine too, but I can resist that OK. I like it but can live without it.

    Tiggs, I broke the coffee habit a long time ago, I used to drink about 18 cups a day and many years ago (mid 1980s) my sister gave me a gift of a week at a health farm. They had no coffee so I went cold turkey and had withdrawal fku for 5 days, it was truly dreadful. But I've never gone back to it, always stuck to under 2 per day and decaff for the rest. But I thought cutting back to just the equivalent of 1 per day would be good while I am trying to lose.

    I am rolling along fantastically well, not hungry at all, getting my water down OK. I do need to try and get most of it down earlier in the day so I am not up all night peeing!. I have made up a spreadsheet with various sheets to track my weight loss by kgs/lbs/BMI; measurements; a 'projections' sheet based on 1 kg p/w until 100 kgs and then .5 kg/p/w to gaol - June 2012!; Australian Food Values table x 100g serves x fat/protein/carbs/Kjoules/calories; and Daily Food Tracker where I link to the values sheet and it calculates my carbs (and fat & protein) daily for me.

    I know some people don't go for all this stuff, and doing the foods daily with the spreadsheet is a bit fiddly, but it helps motivate me and keep me on track.

    If anyone wants a copy I can email it to you, you'd just have to change the dates and weights and rename it for yourself.

    Wow - the spreadsheet sounds amazing. It is not the way for me but I can imagine it is a great focus.

    I've lost 5.9 kgs already! Down to 116.1!!!

    My counts for the 5 days have been:
    Protein Fat Carb
    90.4 28.9 17.7
    102.9 91.4 21.2
    67.6 76.6 20.7
    148.5 81.0 18.8
    122.4 39.6 19.5

    I had a suspicion that more fat would (a) leave me more satisfied and (b) promote weight loss and so far so good.

    Whooppee!

    that is awesome odille!!!

    i don't think of a fat corpse - but i'll tell you what i DO think of - i used to work in nursing and retirment homes...and cared for a few extremely overweight people. more mortifying for me to think of some poor young person rolling my fat ass around the bed trying to (ahem) clean me up...

    seriously. think about it.

    okay, stop thinking about it now!
