I first did Atkins first in Sept 2005 and went from 131 kgs (288.5 lbs, 20st 8lbs) to 120 lgs (264.25 lbs, 18st 12lbs) in the 2 weeks of Induction and then down to 101.5 kgs (223.5 lbs, 15st 13lbs) after 5 months.
I felt wonderful and in the process discoverred I had a sever intolerance to gluten. I had suffered from it all my life, with symptoms of:
- migraine and headaches - this was the worst for me, 53 years of 1-3 migraines a week - Mum told me from about 8 months I used to bash my head against the cot bars and scream!
- constant stomach aches, feeling like I had swallowed a large brick and it was stuck in my chest
- urinary urgency (I was always wanting to 'go')
- eczema and other itchy skin rashes;
- nasal congestion (stuffy or runny nose);
- depression, unexplained tiredness, impairment of memory and concentration; tachycardia (fast heart beat);
- irritability, restlessness, inattention, difficulty settling to sleep, night waking.
When I'd been on Atkins for about a week my dear OH pointed out to me that I hadn't had a migraine since I'd been on that 'weird diet' - and I realised he was right. I had a 3 day headache rather than 'Induction flu' but once that cleared - I have not had a migraine since Sept 2005 - it was like being let out of jail.
Then I had a car accident and lost the plot and have crept back up to 121.2 kgs (266.9 lbs, 19st 1lb). I've had a couple of spurts at restarts and just lost the plot totally. It is hard that the dear OH, although overweight, doesn't want to join me.
But with returning leg pains, back aches and feeling absolutely bl00dy awful all the time, I am currently eating less carbs for a week and plan to leap into Induction next week. IT has really started to interfere with my life again, and I don't want to be a fat corpse.
So wish me luck. I will post my weight on Monday (Sun US time, we are GMT+10, but with DST +11 ATM) and go on from there.
