Does anyone else use Truiva?
I know it's not listed in the 2002 Atkins book but I don't think it was around at that time.
Do you think Dr. Atkins would have approved of it?
How do you count the carbs? I have read that sugar alcohols have no effect on our blood sugar.

Rule number 7!!
"7. Acceptable sweeteners include sucralose (Splenda), saccharine (Sweet’N Low), stevia (SweetLeaf or Truvia) or xylitol. Have no more than three packets a day, and count each one as 1 gram of carbs. This is because, while these sweeteners contain no carbs, they are packaged with fillers that do contain a little carbohydrate to keep them from clumping."
I don't use Truvia because I can't stand the taste of it. Whatever you do, watch the daily limit and count the carb in each packet. 1g per packet. The sweetener doesn't have carbohydrate, but the maltodextrin it's packaged with does.
Truvia isn't a sugar alcohol. Most packaging will say that sugar alcohol carbs can be deducted from the total. You'll have to see how your body responds to them. Many diabetics claim that some of the carb IS digested based on their blood sugar rising after ingesting it. Also... be VERY careful to limit your serving size. They can cause extreme digestive discomfort. I stay away... far far away... from SA! One bad experience was all I needed. OH, and the first time you try it... make sure you can be alone afterward. Don't try it on a road trip, either.
LOL

Truvia doesn't have maltodextrin.
The box states erythritol (which I think is a sugar alcohol?) and rebiana (which is the stevia) and natural flavors.
Is that rule #7 in a newer version than 2002.

Yup... it IS a sugar alcohol. Watch for intestinal issues... and cravings. If you're one of the people who CAN digest SA, you'll need to count at least part of those sugar alcohol carbs. Looking online it seems each packet has 3g carb from the SA.
The "rule" came from the Atkins site... on the "how to do Induction right" article (look at Program, then Phase One).
