my 63 year old grandmother has type 2 diabetes, cholestrol and high blood pressure. She also has calcification of arteries.
her BMI is 34.2.
Is atkins suitable for her? If yes , from where can she find out how to do atkins for diabetics?

I believe that a low carb diet is perfect for diabetics... but Asma, this HAS to be something she discusses with her doctor. Changing her diet will change her insulin/med requirements. If she changes her diet significantly (and going low carb from high carb is definitely significant for a diabetic) and doesn't change her meds as needed... that's not going to end well. She shouldn't (can't?) do this without her dr's input.
Get her a copy of the book. She should read it and then discuss it with her DR if it's something she's willing to try.
HTH,
Tril
I went on low carb because my sugar had gotten so high and it's been great for me. My sugar's back to normal, my blood pressure is getting better, I feel more energetic, and I'm losing weight. What's not to like about that?
Yes I agree with Tril - it would be great for her but she needs her doctor's involvement, even if he disagrees and she is determined to try it, she must ask him to monitor her closely as it WILL affect the amount of medication she needs, she won't need nearly so much
