I'm only a newbie, but I find it rather disturbing that we have forum members who are convinced that the way to lose weight is to cut back on fat and exercise more. I'm not trying to be smart or anything. I'm only repeating what other people have taught me, but -
In a nutshell
1 - if you exercise more just to lose weight, your body will need more calories
2 - If you have carbs in your system, your body will lock its fat away "for later" and only satisfy its cravings with those carb sugars.
3 - You'll end up craving food, and since you're eating low fat, you'll either have more carbs (Which are bad for your weight loss) or fruit (Which is sugar in a fancy skin)
4 - The ONLY way to break this cycle is to increase your fat intake and try to remove as many carbs as possible from your diet. "Low fat" is just marketing and it will not help you. You need to teach your body to digest and BURN fat all the time, by making sure it's the only energy source available.
5 - If you're on a low calorie diet, you're starving yourself and you'll either lose muscle density or lose energy. If your body is still taking in carbs, it will NOT lose fat for any great length of time.
Sorry about this, linder. I'm not trying to sound like Mister Know-it-all, but it's these theories have utterly transformed my world view. If you can't get your head round them, you're going to be stuck in carb addiction for ever.
I'm only just starting out on all this, but I would ask you to buy "Why we get fat" by Gary Taubes and not starve yourself on Low Fat rations until you've read it and judged its merit (or lack of) for yourself.
Thanks! I'm just scratching the surface of the wealth of knowledge on line. I've also ordered an Atkins book from Amazon. So far I'm having fun but I'm going to need loads of recipe ideas if I'm going to make it fun!
Hello people, I am a newbie here to the board. Walking is the best.... I walk every single day. Unless there is bad weather, then I don't walk on that day.... Walking has helped me tremendously in maintaining my weight... Yes it is the best for me anyway... I love it!
I think the best time for walking is in the morning. At least i do it this way and i'm very happy.
