Thanks Trac.
Well my co-worker knew I was low carbing because I told her a couple days
before. I don't know if she simply forgot or she did it on purpose. Who
knows. I'll say she forgot (doubt it lol). Doesn't matter much because in the end, it's my decision not hers.
I am almost done my first week. For some reason it seems a lot longer.
I'm glad you are hanging in there Trac. |

Hi Merlot. Yes, January is flying. Hope you had a nice holiday.
I didn't weigh myself before I started last week. I weighed myself this
morning. I am the same weight I was before I lost the 5 pounds, before
the start of the Christmas holidays. I went off low carbing during the
holidays, so I knew I gained the 5 lbs. back and likely some. So I could have been more and lost. I can't say for certain. This week I'll know for sure. |

Hi Sharwell
Hope your doing ok.
I think your confussing your plan due to you relying on the stix because if it doesnt show a positive you change the way your doing things if you know your sticking to it and your not eating out of the plan stick with it you will see after a couple of days
Good luck |

Agreed. If I stick to the plan I don't need to worry. I still haven't weighed myself. Last week I did ok, but one day I ate too much cheese and another
day I had a bag of cashews.
This week so far I've been ok. I am still drinking my tea with whipping cream. The only thing with that is I drink a lot more than 2 cups of tea.
I've also been bloated, so I am waiting for the bloating to go away before
I get on the scale. This will be my second week. If I lost anything, I'll
be happy. |

I hope so too Merlot. We'll see. If not, then I'll have no choice but to cut
back on the whipping cream. I hope I don't have to. Other than using
whipping cream, my week was good. I am slowly adjusting. |

Just nagging to make sure you are eating 12-15 grams of veggies every day and getting some fat into your diet, like butter, full fat cheese or creamed cheese!
BTW, some fast food restaurants MAKE a bunless burger, without any condiments, etc, wrapped in a lettuce leaf. Hardee's (aka Carl's Junior out west) does, as well as a Southern Calif favorite, "In-and-Out Burger". You might check to see if you have them in your area, or if any other chain could accommodate you. Get a slice of onion and maybe a pickle chip and cheese - should only total 2-3 net carbs at the most...then use mayo or mustard only...skip the ketchup! That leaves PLENTY of room for a couple of servings of vegetables w. butter and a salad with full fat dressing (nag, nag!)

Well I weighed myself. I gained 4 lbs. instead of losing 4 lbs. So as of
tomorrow I am going to return to what worked for me before. Black tea
and using the keto sticks as a guide. February will be a month of progress. |

Try to stay away from the nuts... esp cashews. There are much better choices if you decide to add nuts later (during OWL).
Are you going to transition to OWL this week? If so... it's just 5 more net grams from veggies this week. So 15 to 20 ng from vegetables, the rest (up to 25 total) from the other stuff.
FWIW, you CAN have cream in your tea if you're following the plan. Count each TBS as 0.3 grams. If you're not following the plan (too much cheese and eating nuts) then cutting the cream may not help anyway.

I didn't eat any nuts this week. That was the week before.
Tomorrow is a new day. I can start again. I know my mistakes. February
will be better. Surprisingly I am not upset. I am not even disappointed.
Thanks. |

Thank you. Yes, today is the start of a new day, new month, a clean slate.
The past forgotten. I start anew as if it was my first time, because it is my
first time. (smile). |

Yesterday, I did good. I drank my tea black. Not having the comfort of
cream in my tea is an adjustment though. I am not going to add in
cream (whipping) until I am in ketosis. Then I can monitor how much
cream I can have before I slip out of ketosis. When I was in ketosis
before the holidays, I had cream after I was in ketosis, and I remained in
ketosis. So I'll wait and see.
The hardest part is not eating when I am not hungry. It's a bad habit
and one I must break. |

It's day three, tomorrow I'll check to see if I am in ketosis. I checked
this morning. Nothing. I figured it's too soon. So we'll see tomorrow.
One side of effect of drinking my tea black, is the tea stains my teeth.
I hate that! |

I checked to see if I was in ketosis yesterday. The keto stick still showed that I was not in ketosis. Today, I didn't check. Instead I weighed myself. I lost 2ibs. If I lose another 2lbs by Sunday or Monday the latest, I'll be
pleased. It'll put me back where I started.
The toughest thing for me is not eating when I am not hungry. Bad
habits are hard to break. |

Let's try this logic.
Fact: The reason a person loses weight quickly on Atkins is being in ketosis.
Fact: You just lost 2 pounds.
Conclusion: Therefore, you are in ketosis (regardless of what the sticks show.)
Tells me something...the sticks are driving you bats!! They are not a good indicator of whether the diet is working and not a good reason to ditch the cream in your tea!
I'd toss the sticks...you lost weight when the sticks did not register.
If it were me, I'd put the cream back in the tea and enjoy life again.
That's my opinion...hope you find whatever balance you need so you can relax and enjoy the plan without fussing over ketosis.
My best...

I checked on Wednesday and Thursday and I wasn't in ketosis. Friday I did not check to see if I was ketosis but I weighed myself and the scale showed I lost 2Ibs. Today I checked to see if I was in Ketosis and I am. I likely was on Friday as well. So Merlot you are right that I was in ketosis. But I am
keeping the sticks lol.
As for the whipping cream, I did start using it again on Thursday. I am
allowing myself three cups of tea with whipping cream a day.
I am trying hard not to eat when I am not hungry. It's tough thing to do.
But getting out of the habit will help too. |

Sharwell, I sympathise. I think getting over the "eating for the wrong reasons" issue is the key. Happily, after 25 years of a variety of eating disorders, I am able to say I have got there and would really recommend a therapist or, if that is not your thing, I read (and reread a million times) a great book by Dr Cherie Martin "Naturally Slim" - she is fantastic at helping take the power away from food so it just becomes food again. You learn to listen to your body's signals ... totally liberating.
Just a thought. There are lots of second hand copies on websites.
Good luck and I must echo the others - don't worry about the sticks! They are really unreliable in my experience so I am not using them this time and hey - I am losing weight and inches!

No a therapist isn't my thing, but I will purchase the book. I didn't always
have this problem. I developed it over the past ten years or so. I didn't
even realize how serious a problem I had until I tried to stop. It's
a battle. But I'll win it in the end. I'll just take some practice. Thanks. |

Well I just got off the scale and I lost another 2lbs. That's the 4lbs I had recently gained, I now taken off. So now I am back to where I started.
If I lost 2Ibs a week, I'd be content with that. |

I weighed myself today. I lost 1Ib. That's 5Ibs. in weeks three weeks. It's not much, but I am grateful all the same. It's better than nothing. |

5 pounds in 3 weeks is good. Think about it. If you keep that up for 3 months, that is 22 pounds!! How good is that!!
