Well I just finished the 10 mile road race and while I'm a little disappointed in my time (1:57:03) I can be happy I crossed the line and was able to do so even with an injured hamstring.
Anyways, I'm gearing up for my next challenge. I'm debating singing up for a race in October which is 20 km but has grueling hills. Here is an elevation profile for this race:
As you can see, it has the following features:
«550 m elevation gain, 450 m elevation drop
«Only 3 km flat!
«4 major climbs
«Some climbs and descents at > 10%
It isn't quite half marathon length but I think that can be forgiven due to the hills.
It goes from the most easterly point in North America, Cape Spear, Newfoundland, to one of the most recognized tourist destinations in Canada, Cabot Tower, St. John's, NL, where the first trans Atlantic wireless transmission was received in 1901.
To give some sense of scale, here is a picture of Cape Spear (top left) taken from Cabot Tower:
The last mile starts at sea level and basically proceeds to where this picture is taken from. Grueling to say the least.
In the mean time, once I take a couple days off to get rid of some aches, I'm going to start working out a little using the ewellness slow burn workout I came across on here (can't remember if joeblow or JohnDoe posted it). I think some cross training would help with the overall results I'm going for in all this. |
