Here we are. July. When I think of July I think of childhood... innocent days spent playing outside. Going fishing, going to the beach, life when it was simple... all you needed was a bathing suit and flip flops. BATHING SUIT??? Oh wow... remember when all that mattered was the color? Those were the days. LOL Anyway, it's July again... so let's focus on enjoying the simple things this month, on enjoying life and yes, even the color of your bathing suit. Go out there... get this job done... but enjoy the journey, too.
Feel free to post the things you've found joy in this month... maybe it's a day fishing or hiking with your kids, or the perfectly grilled hunk 'o meat shared with friends, or a walk on the beach with your loved one. Too often, when we're losing weight, we only post about the joy in "losing"... but there are other things to be happy and grateful about. What are yours?
Tril... whose personal moments of joy this morning are a good cup of coffee, the ability to stand up without pain medication and a house showing in 3 hours (I'll be even happier when it's over)... Wt: unknown... |

Great to see a July Challenge started. Im glad June is over and am looking forward to getting more weight off by the end of July.
I agree Tril, July is packed with memories of childhood (it doesnt seem like very long ago when the sun is warm and summer breezes blow) I hope my children remember things like that and I enjoy making memories with them.
Im greatful that I have my children and they are healthy and happy. Im thankful my husband has a good job in this rough economy and I am still able to stay home with my little one.
My starting weight for July is 197 and I hope to be 190 by August..Thats almost 2 pounds a week and ambitious but Im so tired of being FAT haha |

current for July: 169; goal: 165
joy for today :kicking some butt in bodycombat class. there are lots of people in there just flopping thier arms and legs around...don't get me wrong - it's still a great workout i'm sure, and it works for them (or they wouldn't keep coming), but i am proud of myself for always giving my all in that class (evidenced by how i pay the price for it in soreness all weekend )
i pretend someone's trying to hurt my little ones and. i. kick. their. A**
tracy
tril - i'm happy you can walk you poor thing!!!
alfmom - same here - grateful that dh has a good job and that i can stay home too!

Got weighed this morning and I'm afraid not much is going to make me joyful today!!! LOL Let's see... wt gain, back still hurts, son moving away, house not selling, no sun for three weeks and no sun predicted for this week... BUT, I'm vertical. So there's my joy. And dh has today off... and he's chosen to spend it with me (not fishing or working on his project truck). We're leaving in a few to spend the day out. He wants to go look at a mower down east... so we're taking the scenic route (shouldn't be too many tourists with this weather) and stopping for lunch and shopping at some stores I get to once a year or so. Ok, there's my joy for today... the simple things.
WT today: 136... up 5# since my back went out. $%(*&$%& IT! |

Tracy...Your class sounds really fun. i would probably be one of the floppers haha...I have to do constant phys therapy on my neck and lower back from nerve damage Im just thankful that once in a while I am able to ride my horse....
Tril I hope your day is great and the sun shines I love lazy trips where you dont have to hurry to get back home. Have fun!!
The 4th is tomorrow and Im looking forward to it..I plan on eating right and sweating out in the sun. I havent been able to exercise this week because of my neck (well 25 minutes on the treadmill yesterday) So I dread weighing in next week.
Happy low carb Holiday Everyone!!! |

I'll enjoy getting out of the 260s.
Seriously though, got quite a few social occasions in this month, so I will be enjoying them and not be as strict as compared with June(alcohol wise, not food). I only had alcohol once during the month of June , which is why my stall is so aggravating to me. Its one thing to stall when you're off plan, but to be playing by the rules and stall just argghhh!!
I'm hoping for a 6# month in July, which would put me at just under 255. BTW- This is the point (in July and in the 250s) that I lost my forward momentum on weight loss on my first atkins go around. I really want to push through them and not fail like last time. |

don't fall Joe! i will be looking forward to how you ROCKED in july!!!!
hey - alfmom - yes, i should really consider that maybe other people may HAVE to flop for some perfectly good reason.... thanks for the reminder that we are all on our own journey! (blushing a bit at my attitude )
anyway, i of all people should know that sometimes one needs to just flop, and it's good to at least be doing something while flopping! (take care of your neck eh? and well done on the treadmill!)
Tril, don't worry too too much about those 5 pounds! hope you enjoyed your fun time with hubs (i love road trips!) - they will go. you can't help being laid up, so don't let them beat you!

Hey Tracy,,,, I was just saying I would prob flop and thats with or without my neck injury haha I am alomost 200 pounds..but hopefully with weight loss I will be able to do more ....I love learning new things and being active (or at least I used to ) And thinking about your kids is great motivation to kick a** Some guy in a dark alley might get a surprise if he messed with you
I did good today. The 4th of July parade was nice and we decided not to eat there at all...save money and carbs by having our food at home I have been slacking on my water since my neck problems last week...not smart I know. Maybe its because my activity level went down so much.
I hope everyone had a great day!! |

hey alf....well done for the holiday! i know people may sometimes decide to take a holiday "off-plan" - but i reckon even if it doesn't cause a gain, the cravings and all that make it SO not worth it (for me)!
last night i dreamt 4 guys showed up at my door looking for someone, and took off with my car, assuring me i "had nothing to worry about". i woke up anxious and cranky. got myself back to sleep peacefully by imagining myself body-combatting thier a$$es (yes, ALL FOUR of them) - ahhhh, a lovely sleep after that. i like to turn bad dreams around.....
this week at homegroup we're having a "happy belated canada-day" night. i'm making chocolate peanut-butter squares for the groupies (they taste better than reese's because they're fresh ), and will not have any myslef...siiiigh. but you know what helps me? knowing that since i actually want to eat the WHOLE TRAY, that one piece won't satisfy, so i don't bother. yes, i've always been a binge-r, so that keeps me from having "just one", becuase i am not like normal people for whom "just one" is acually enough. fact is, i never could understand that "just one" thing. never did it for me
guess that's why i battle weight. oops - "used to" battle. bless your socks, Dr Atkins!

Thats a funny dream...your body is wanting to use the skills it has learned haha....Its great to feel empowered huh..I hope I can whip it in to shape and feel that way too. The chocolate peanut butter squares sound good and I have never been a big peanut butter fan And DEFINATELY realate on the whole tray...used to I didnt even grasp the fact of what I was eating...I love not eating out of pure emotion and addiction anymore.
I am only down one pound this week to 196 but considering I was laid up most of last week I am happy with that.
How is everyone else doing? |

I finally broke into the 250s, still got 4.6 to go for the month. Hopefully I can lose a lb a week for the next two, then knock out the rest in the second half of the month.
or maybe my woosh fairy will visit me and I'll be at 255 next week. Who can tell sometimes with this crazy diet. |

Hey, i'm in for July!
I'm still plugging away. Coming to the end of week 4 of Atkins.
Summer is very hot over here and I am missing fruits. Sometimes I'll have a sliver of watermelon or canteloupe. I really miss it.
I was at the gym for toning classes twice this week. Hope to go more next week. I'm still in the 90's (kilo) and hope to break into the 80's sometime soon, depending on how fast the weight loss is.
My sister was so inspired she called me today to ask me how to do Atkins. This is the same sister that gave me such an anti Atkins lecture 5 years ago |

I'm back from vacation with a 2 lb gain...but for two weeks that was about what I expected. July IS a memorable month for me.
San Diego...family visits...fireworks on the 4th of July, hearing the "oohs and ahhhs" as the "bombs bursting in air" spectacular wound to a close.
It was worth it! |

ok, I'm done with the "fun" for the month, now its time to get back to dropping some weight. My all time low weight for the past 10 years or so is not too far off. |

My joys this month:
1) Daughter's 13th birthday - a teenager - imagine that. Celebrated by buying her and her mother (my ex) dinner at a local Vietnamese place she likes. A few extra carbs that night - but a nice experience. I'm joyful that my ex and I can celebrate milestones like this together with our wonderful daughter.
2) Vacation at the start of the month - and didn't even work.
3) Commitment to start Atkins again - I do well on this way of eating and am excited to be back. |

Looking for where you find joy in your life... not "fun".
I found joy this weekend taking my dogs for a walk because my dh came with us 3 times.
I found joy this weekend when my oldest son's gf called to say they had arrived safely in Memphis after 3.5 days on the road with two cars and one moving truck... AND when they got there, 3 young guys volunteered to unload the truck and move everything up to their 2nd floor apt once they saw my son with his foot in a cast. His gf was going to have to move everything alone.
I found joy when my youngest son called to say the apartment complex he's moving into in August offered to let them move in a week early... at no extra cost to them (us) so they could get out of their wet/mildew/moldy basement apartment sooner.
I found immense joy when the weather was dry and yesterday. I opened all my windows and let the breeze blow through. I got my kitchen floor washed (and it DRIED). I shampooed the livingroom furniture (and it DRIED). We've had nothing but rain since the end of May. Drip, drip, drip...
Look Ma! No food joys!!!
