Phentermine for Obesity

Phentermine is an appetite lowering drug. It is a sympathomimetic amine, which is similar to an amphetamine. Phentermine enhances the production of dopamine. Dopamine stimulates the central nervous system and increases the heart rate and blood pressure, thereby decreasing the appetite. Phentermine is available as a generic product Known as "Phentermine" (produced by EON LABS MANUFACTURING, INC.) and brand-name products: Ionamin and Adipex are brand-name phentermines. Phentermine comes in a hydrochloride (HCl) salt and a resin complex (see Ionamin).

Phentermine should only be considered by those who are seriously obese and should only be used under the supervision of trained physician. For some people, weight loss medications might be one of few options. However, it should be remembered that all medications have potential harmful side effects. In addition phentermine and similar medications can be addictive. Weight loss pills are not an instant solution for weight loss. Follow the instructions of a trained physician. Weigh up the benefits with the potential risks and consider other weight loss options.
