Head over to the Atkins site and check out the current plan vs the 2002 version. Get the new Induction list... even if you're not doing Induction level eating. The list has the rules, which you should reread. Then check out OWL. Remember the carb ladder? They're doing it differently now.
Good luck... I think you're on to something!!!

hey OO - i have another suggestion!
congratulate yourself everyday on a job WELL DONE!! losing 50 big ones is awesome!! and making sure you don't backslide is bloody fantastic too!
repeat after me: "i am a ROCKSTAR!"
t
oh, and colleen the nutritionist at sweet and sexy (atkins.com) says not to go under 1500 cals a day (or is it 1400? anyway..more than 1000ish ) - and that fat should not drop until your carb levels are above 50 (i jsut read that - although those like tril who are so close to their goal weight (GO TRIL) do adjust their fat/cals...if it works for them like it does for our Girl

Oh boy... guess I better go see what colleen said... was it in response to my post??? I get so fed up with "eat more" posts when I don't think they stop to ask who they're saying it to. It pisses me off! LOL
OO.... go to one (or several) of the online calorie calculators and see what they say you need calorie wise to maintain for your wt now and your goal wt. That will give you a better idea what YOU need... instead of a general recommendation given for every woman. At my height/weight I need about 1500 to maintain where I'm at today. I need about 1250 to maintain my goal weight. That's why it irritates me when I'm told I should be eating 1500-1800 calories a day... hello... you want me to GAIN weight on this diet??? So figure out what YOUR body needs... and stick to those numbers. If you're confused, tell me your height, age and current wt/goal wt and I'll do it for you.

Thanks for the guidance guys! I knew that I would get comments about the low calorie amount which is why I said I need to work on that. The ugly truth is that I know my body - and after living with it for almost 50 years I know that if I eat more than 1200 calories I don't lose....it really doesn't matter what the charts or nutritionist say - unfortunately that's the way it works for me. Believe me I have tried in the last six months to bump that up - and when I do - I maintain - I don't lose. Which I think is partly the reason that I have hardly moved in my weight for the last seven weeks.
The food log and the double exercise did the trick - I went from 182.5 - which was exactly 50 pounds less than my starting weight on 1/27/09 to 182.0 this morning. While I am disappointed that I didn't see a flicker of 181. anything.....that 1/2 pound is sweet to my eyes and ears. I could "feel" in my torso that I had lost.
Committed to exercise - food journal - and pushing water with Tril this morning...that is after I have my beloved cup of joe (1/2 caf)!!! |

OO... I have to keep my calories low, too. Never over 1400 if I want to lose anything... usually not under 1000 (although, once in a while that happens). Around 1100 to 1200 works best for me. I envy women who can lose eating 1800!!! Sheesh. That's TWICE what I can eat to have the same wt loss results. Dieting would be EASY (and FUN) if I could eat double what I eat. LOL Oh well. Comparing myself to others is never smart. I am what I am. Work with it. |

2. Morning water intake - 48 oz ..
3. Exercise - 30 mins aerobic - and 10 minutes weight work (focus on arms)

8. Walk with dh

Well....met the water goals for the day......now if I can meet the carb and calorie goal I might have it made! Have salmon tonight with an herb seasoning that the butcher put on it .....it was really salty....worried about water retention especially with all the water I drank today!
Off for a cup of tea before bed -

i love the self-care bit
i do a lot of self care....maybe too much
anyway, yeah, look follow tril's advice, but since your weight is still high-ish, i'm guessing your caloric needs are over 1000 - hey tril, no - it wasn't in response to your post
i keep going down too after my salt-binge...dont' sweat the salmon - as long as you are aware that you had sodium, just dont weigh for a couple days, and drink that water! no sense freaking yourself out!
i wish water made ME full! i never understood that!! fat, on the other hand...helps a LOT!
take care all, gotta go fold laundry now, then get Miss 6 from school (MR newly-4 and i are walking...)

Well - I was right to worry about the salt - up .8 this morning - which is frustrating because I am being so careful. I know to that I have not been "regular" for 3-4 days which might be adding to the up on the scale. I will just keep plugging along and take Tracy's advise and not worry about it for a day and kick up my water.
Off to the office today - last day for the two weeks -

Does not sound like "plugging" anything is a good idea. OK, that was gross but I could not resist it was just sitting there tee'd up.
I think someone else already said it. Water, Water and oh yes, more water. |

No dreams coming true this day.....the scale showed a disappointing 182.0
while the .8 is gone....I am dying to get into the 70's....hitting 175 is a big big deal to me........will just keep moving forward and hope that tomorrow shows some movement.
We are going away this weekend with 3 other couples to a cabin up north of us.....going to be planning my menu today so I can keep on track. The other women all struggle with weight issues as well but are not actively doing anything about it (that I know of) so I will have to be careful in many many ways! |

Sounds like a plan - I am going to sit down soon and figure it out. The problem for me is that every couple is doing a meal - I have Friday night...someone else has breakfast Saturday and someone else Sunday and the other couple Saturday night...we are going to be exploring so lunches will be out - which means I can control them.
For breakfast I am planning on taking my eggs and making an omelet with spinach and cheese (my morning standard).....not sure what Friday night is going to be. I know that they are grilling out on Saturday evening so will be fine there with the protein - just need to figure out what else I am going to take....maybe fresh veggies from the garden that I can stirfry.....
You? |

When we do things like that with other couples I always bring enough extra for me to stay on plan. If I can eat what they have, good. If I can't, I don't apologize. I just fix my own meal and eat with everyone else. Bring some cucumbers... if they have crackers and cheese or chips and dip, you can use cucumber slices in place of the crackers. I just don't leave anything to chance.
For this weekend I'll just be bringing food for dh and me. We'll end up doing "potluck" Saturday night. DH's aunt and adult cousin/family will be next door. Dh and I will end up eating over there if history repeats itself! Friday night his aunt and one of the cousin's kids will be there. We'll visit, but we'll eat dinner alone at our camp.
I'm thinking:
Steak Friday night with salad. Make enough steak to have leftovers for me all weekend (lunch Sat, snacks if needed).
Saturday...
B'fast - eggs, with toast/bacon for dh.
Lunch - leftover Friday night dinner, for dh he can make a sand from the steak plus I'll bring him fruit, maybe chips.
Dinner - the challenge... let's see... burgers, maybe... yes, burgers. I'll get some cilantro and cumin, some red pepper and pepperjack cheese, and make Mex burgers. A roll for dh. I think we're going to make another blueberry pie to share with everyone. I could do some peppers and onions in a cast iron pan for veggies. Or better yet, maybe I'll make a big ole bowl of cole slaw for sharing. It would be easier than something else to cook. Dh can have some of his aunt's carb junk. I'm sure she'll have potato salad AND pasta salad. And cookies. And donuts. And chips. He won't go hungry or feel deprived. LOL
Extras to bring... boiled eggs, cheddar cheese, diet soda, mayonaise.
I'm good! |

Mornin' all!! Well it's early here in the midwest 5:30....and I am up about 2 hours earlier than norm....which means I weighted myself two hours early...which means if I had waited I might have seen that must coveted number of 180 that I was looking for this week .....but the good news is 181.0 on the nose!!!! A solid pound - and 2 1/2 for the week, which is over my weekly goal of two!
I got up early so I could exercise before we leave for the weekend, which will be in just a few hours! I have my meals all ready to go - and I decided to take the scale with me....I know, I know.....a little ocd but what the heck...I am so close to that 179 number that I what to make sure I don't mess up. Planning on getting up early on Saturday and Sunday and walking so I can at least guarantee some movement...and am going to be very very careful.
No internet where we are going......so have a great weekend! Have fun at fil's camp Tril......Tracy don't eat 20 eggs

Well I am going to make this brief as I am exhausted and ready to go to bed and it's only 9:05!!!!
I walked out the door without the scale....so when we got back about an hour ago = after putting everything away I ran up to check out the scale....knowing that TYPICALLY it is 2-3 pounds lighter in the morn...the scale said 180.4....so that is a 1/2 pound loss WITHOUT the morning weigh in - I just might hit that 179 tomorrow....I am so excited...I think if it still shows in the 80's tomorrow I will be very depressed. It was an interesting weekend - more on the tomorrow!. |

Oh happy day!!! Oh, happy day!!! When that ole' scale,
yes when that ole' scale....took the 80's away!!! (Sung to the tune of O happy day...which you may know if you go to church).
Well the good news is 178.4!!!! 2.6 pounds! And amazing considering what the weekend turned out to be!
I was traveling with three other couples - two couples are very over-weight, and one couple the wife is - only the husband is slim. The thing is that with one couple, both are diabetic but not taking care of themselves and watching their sugar. At the age of 40 something....they have eye problems, circulation problems, feet problems....ie, can't walk in the grocery store - have to use a cart..... (only one of the two uses the cart).
It was really weird to be the thinnest woman there. Dh said I looked down right skinny compared to the rest....(and that he was proud of all my hard work). Anyway - I ate according to my lifestyle and watched as everyone else ate themselves, all weekend, into oblivion. I mean by the end of the weekend they were all complaining about how miserable they felt from eating too much...but our last meal out together was a buffet!!!!!
When we went back to our cabin to clean up before we left - they all were literally dripping with sweat from pushing the vacuum around and packing the car....(yes it was 87 with 60% humidity) but not me . The weekend so affirmed the good choices that I have made in my life...and showed me where I could be "if" I had not made that choice. The thing is - I am not judging them (even if it sounds that way - it is not meant too) but it was filled with lessons - showing me how blessed I am - and a lesson in reminding me to be loving and supportive, and non-judgmental of those who are struggling with self-care issues...which is what overeating is in my estimation. So it was a good weekend. |

Hey.... that's GREAT!!!! Well done!
I know what you mean about watching how other women eat and being happy to be making the choices we are. I did that this weekend, too. A lot of time spent saying, "No... I don't eat grains... not even whole grains... no, I don't eat potato... or sugar... yes, I survive just fine.... oatmeal is a grain... yes I can live without bread and pasta...." OMG. You should have seen the faces when I said I don't eat fruit (came up when I said no to watermelon and pineapple at the cookout). I wanted to just say LOOK AT MY PLATE and LOOK AT YOURS. There I was with a plate full of tossed salad and raw cauliflower salad (both things I brought) topped with a burger patty and a slice of pepperjack cheese. There they sat eating burgers on rolls with sides of potato salad, pasta salad, watermelon, pineapple, chips... followed up with two kinds of cookies, two kinds of cake (not kidding) AND pie. Don't complain to ME that your stomach hurts and you can't lose weight. I don't feel self righteous or even pity for them... I'm beginning to feel mad. This is the 5th summer of the same old song and dance. It always starts out with hello hugs and then, "I see you're still thin... and I'm still fat." I want to say, "Because I still eat the same... and so do you." LOL It's frustrating, to say the least.
Ok... rant over. Just all that to say, yup... I hear ya!

hey OO - post your menu would ya! i'm in a stall - weeks of no losses!
very happy for you! would love a weekend like that myself! my dh and his moom eat what they like and don't gain a pound (but at least they are both absolutely LOVELY about what i eat: "oh, tracy, do you eat sweet potato? no? no rice? what can i give you? you won't have enough to eat; i only have lamb, tomatoes and onion"...ummm, that'll do!!!!!!!! that was lunch this past weekend
i need to be around some real fatties! not that i'm losing commitment - but gee, would love to compare and come out the best somewhere, anywhere i go.....
ah well, at least i know i'm improving...but would love to improve some more! so stuck right now.
anyway, enough about me!
you did great, and the scale rewarded you...well done!!

Oh Tracy...you do make me laugh!!!
| Quote: | | need to be around some real fatties! not that i'm losing commitment - but gee, would love to compare and come out the best somewhere, anywhere i go..... |
I was feeling so guilty about what I posted because it seemed to come off as not being very sympathetic for people that I was just like a few months ago. I did not share it with meanness in my heart...or arrogance....but it was just how I felt....anyway Tril's response made me feel a little better - but you girl....you kinda nailed my guilty state and articulated it in the most honest way!!! Love it!!
As for a menu....I kinda "worked" with what I had and what was there. Eggs in the morn with fresh veggies inside....small salads with "legal veggies" all with 1 carb blue cheese dressing, and something I don't normal eat a lot of.....burger patties.... grilled.... had that all three days! And I had grilled chicken 2 of the three days with the other 1/2 of my salad. Sunday morning I had two sausage links which I NEVER have....and I had green beans every day...mostly because we have green beans coming out our ears..... have already frozen 45 quart bags and eaten probably 15 or more!
Plus have I have been kicking up the exercise (which I think you already do).....To be honest I think that 2.6 loss was from having an increase in the amount of fat I am in-taking. I think I was pretty good with keeping the calories failry low...I have not put the weekend into fitday yet..I will let you know if you were right about a calorie increase.
My advise if you want to move the scale...go back to induction for a week....measure everything and follow it to the letter - it got me out of my long and painful plateau.....(obviously with green beans in the mix I was not eating a true induction on the weekend...but what the heck whatever I did it worked!) |

ha ha! i for one didn't take anything you said about your weekend as unsympathetic...? you just saw what other people were going through, and were glad it wasn't YOU anymore!!! that is progress, and pride in your achievment, girl! (so take heart!)
yeah, wellll, i have been doing induction! well, induction plus raspberries.
have actually realized that... i cheated my way through july. once i stopped to think about it - there was canada day, anniversary, birthday (times 2) and a cookie moment that i don't want to talk about. needless to say - i was maintaining through the month. which is great, if i'm at a HEALTHY weight. but i'm not. so for goodness sake, i'm going to stop complaining,a nd just stop my "harmless moments" - not so harmless after all. lesson learned.
hmmm, did I sound insensitive about wanting to be around fatties? (i dont' mind )
tracy
ps - i LOVE green beans
pps - planning a day out today with a friend, and have planned a very good take-out menu for myself - snowpeas, red pep with cream cheese, cheddar, and a protein-powder flax muffin (as well as my trusty water-bottle). having eggs right now for breakfast, and am planning NOT to have raspberries today |

Everyone, I surely understand. We have to look at where we started and where we are now, to get a picture of who we were and who we are becoming. Sometimes others' situations make us realize how far we have come. Ever smoked? Do you look at a smoker the same way? Or do you just feel happy you don't do that any more, and wish they would join you in the healthy way. (Spoken by a non-judgmental but grateful reformed-smoker.)
When looking for my BMI to track, I came upon a website with MORE than just the BMI. (It only has stats for Americans, and I can't say if the stats are similar if you live elsewhere.)
This site compares your gender, age, height and weight to a database of Americans and tells you what "percentile" you fall in compared to the stats. When you first go into it, put in the stats where you STARTED Atkins. It is an eye-opener and puts everything else in perspective. Do that first.
Second, put in your current weight and note the stats. If you have been on Atkins for some time, you will be greatly heartened by the numbers.
Then put in your goal weight. Imagine yourself there, (i.e. in the 10th percentile...90% of the women around you of your age being heavier, and YOU in the lean 10%.)
Write all three stages of your progress down...and think about what those stats mean.
This site also has 3 different ideal weight calculations, with some great explanations about how they are calculated. It has some very realistic approaches. It, for example, recognizes we cannot be the same weight at 70 as we are at 20...most calculators don't take age into consideration.
Here is the link - it's worth a look-see:

Ok... that was interesting.
At age 29 and 225# I was in the 94th percentile.
At age 49 and 130# I am in the 12th percentile.
At age 49 and my goal wt of 118# I will be in the 2nd percentile.
The age thing really changes the percentile... I must be going against the grain, being heavy when I was young and thinner as I age! LOL
Thanks for sharing Merlot!
Tracy... how ya doing today?? |

Will have to check out that site later today! Thanks Merlot!
Well I just got back from the doctor - she told me that she did not think I should try to get any lower than 150 based on my age and height! That is about 20 pounds heavier than my original goal weight. I have to say first that it was freeing in a way....that means I could be 25 pounds away from where I want to be verses 45......on the other hand I am taking a wait and see approach. Maybe I will be like Tril and not "feel" good until I get to that lower number.....hmmmmm
She also told me that some of the things that I have been battling are the result of the lower carb intake (under 40 carbs) - and that I am in Ketosis and that as I get to the next level of my diet those things should dissipate. She did not tell me to stop or deviate from my present dietary choices - but to keep doing what I am doing - her thoughts were - if it works it is ok - you know what works for your body!
Things are looking good - now if I could just get over being so tired I would have it made!

Site was interesting....at my age and weight currently I am in the 56% - which the site says the nearer you are to 50% the closer you are to normal for women in my age group....(sad)
When I get to the 150 that my doctor recommends....I will be the 20% ....80 percent of the women in my age group will weigh more than me.....I like that thought! (she says feeling very very selfish) |

i think i was in the 62nd percentile, so 38% of women weigh more? ah well, this too shall pass
when i started, though i was in the 78th !!!!! WOOOOW!!! a change not only from "obese" to "overweight" - but a 16% change!! zoweeeeee i do feel better!
but i'm still working on it
yeah, look, i'm sticking with the raspberries - i think this is a head thing for me - i keep going back and forth, but the fact is, they are legal, and i only eat the 5 grams worth a day - i'll work on the addiction part of it another time (when my kids move out?? lol)
right - just heard that my kids were brushing the dog downstairs...WITH MY BRUSH!!!
anyway - i'm making other changes though - for example - just now i put (pure) onion powder on my tomatoes instead of salt (it was darn good too!), and had one cup of joe again instead of 2 this am - also taking CoQ10 in the afternoon instead of another coffee - which works too! (may be all in my head; doesn[t matter to me )
but i'm feeling good - looking forward to shifting some more weight, jsut keeping on....
also - bought some size 12 esprit jeans (NA size 10 i think) from ebay that i hope to fit into while it's still cool enough to wear them occasionally. - wearing The Jeans that i bought a few months ago and feeling great, but i want a new goal, you know? only thing is - it may happen (i hope!), that it will be too hot for jeans when i fit them, and then by the time it's cold again next may-ish, they'll be too small - (wouldn't that be great?!?!) - so we'll see!
olive - i do hope you get over this fatigue - there are few things worse, eh?
take care all - and Tril, i'm posting an SOS in my thread for my MIL - i know you're the woman to help me - but everyone else - i could use all the help i can get - it's a recipe-need, not a monster-in-law need..so don't worry (she's lovely)

Well the scale is moving really slowly...but it IS moving....176.2 this morning .... with a little luck (the hard work is always going on at the moment) I might hit 175 by the end of the month which is a major goal! |

Oliveoil ... you are doing GREAT!
Determining a proper goal IS hard. At least it is "movable." I've changed mine down once, but haven't decided what it finally will be. I'm in no hurry.
Since "ideal weights" are in a range, they often are by "type of frame." We used to have a rule of about whether you were small, average or big boned, by circling your wrist with your and middle finger of the opposite hand. If they overlapped, small frame; meet was medium; gap meant large. Mine gap by 1/2 inch, and I can't even squeeze them together. I just think it is because I have short, stubby fingers!!
Glad you guys found the BMI site interesting.
Happy low-carbing, all!

Well...the scale continues to be kind....175.8 this morning! I am one happy but cautious girl! Cautious b/c you never know if it will stay at the place until you have been there a few days.......
The battle continues on.....with a declaration of winning the war on "fat" in clear sight! |

Hey............today is a big day for me......
I wore my first pair of SIZE 12 jeans
I can't tell you how good that feels - I actually wept!! A pound and 1/2 a way now from the big 60...the nice part is at this level every five pounds makes a big different in how I look and what I can wear. I won't lie - I thought I would never get to this size again - the bulk of my wardrobe is a size 10 - all my classic suits and such....so I am getting closer.....another 15 pounds should get me there.....I am thinking by Christmas. But ya know what - I am just going to be happy and content with where I am right now. I have come a long way - I have learned so much about what I can and can't eat - what triggers my bad food choices - and how much better I feel both physically and mentally when I stick with the program - which is really not a program but a life choice.
This forum has been a HUGE help to me - so thanks!!! When I get discouraged b/c it seems to be taking so long to get this weight off - I will look back to this day a remember how good I felt!

Even during my 36 day stall a couple of weeks ago, my waist shrunk another 1/2", so always remember that the tape measure IS your friend! You are doing SUPER!!
