It was another fine week.

My diet remained the same, I did a little less cheating/drifting on the weekends as I usually do (although always staying in ketosis) and while I was up a bit on Monday, I'm back down today for another tidy week. I might actually be slipping into eating too little again due to no appetite so that's something I have to watch out for.

This week, I didn't do any cross training but I did run 30.2 km (18.9 miles) and I played two games of softball and bought the dog on a couple of long walks.

Starting Weight (October 22, 2008): 330.2 lbs
Week 1 (October 29, 2008): 322.6 lbs (-7.6 lbs)
Week 2 (November 5, 2008): 320.2 lbs (-2.4 lbs)
Week 3 (November 12, 2008): 319.2 lbs (-1.0 lb)
Week 4 (November 19, 2008): 312.2 lbs (-7.0 lb)
Week 5 (November 26, 2008): 310.6 lbs (-1.6 lb)
Week 6 (December 3, 2008): 304.8 lbs (-5.8 lb)
Week 7 (December 10, 2008): 304.6 lbs (-0.2 lb)
Week 8 (December 17, 2008): 298.4 lbs (-6.2 lb)
Week 9 (December 24, 2008): 298.0 lbs (-0.4 lb)
Week 10 (December 30, 2008): 293.8 lbs (-4.2 lb)
Week 11 (January 7, 2009 ): 293.8 lbs (0 lb)
Week 12 (January 14, 2008): 290.4 lbs (-3.4 lb)
Week 13 (January 21, 2008): 291.6 lbs (+1.2 lb)
Week 14 (January 28, 2009): 288.8 lbs (-2.8 lb)
Week 15 (February 4, 2009): 287.6 lbs (-1.2 lb)
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Week 33 (June 10, 2009): 305.6 lbs (+18.0 lb)
Week 34 (June 17, 2009): 302.2 lbs (-3.4 lb)
Week 35 (June 24, 2009): 297.0 lbs (-5.2 lb)
Week 36 (July 1, 2009): 291.6 lbs (-5.4 lb)

In 36 weeks I'm down 40.6 lbs for an average weekly loss of 1.13 lbs per week.
Since returning to this WOE 3 weeks ago, I'm down 14.0 lbs for an average weekly loss of 4.67 lbs per week.

What can I say? I try.

I just got back from a 5 km tempo run and I'm dying as its the first time I did a tempo run in 3 1/2 years. 10 minute warm up and easy pace then sprints for 300 m/easy pace 300m repeated 5 times, with a 5 minute cool down at an easy pace.

My sprints are still not that fast at basically 8min/mile or 7.5 mph but it was enough to kick my 290 lb ass.

I got to sneak in another run tomorrow before my long run on Sunday as I missed one earlier this week. As to not ruin Sunday's long run tomorrows will be a slow pace but it'll be 6 km without stopping.

Well I got a little bit of a stall going since Monday. I've started eating a little more but I never went out of ketosis. Its ok because I know I couldn't keep up a 5 lbs a week pace but hopefully I can keep in a 2-3 lbs loss/week pace.

I ran a little less this past week. I missed one run in the middle of last week and my weekend long run was a disaster. I had set out to do 14 km but I had to give up after 7.5 km as my shins were bothering me and I didn't want to injure them. I did get in 19 km for the week.

Anyway, the stats.

Starting Weight (October 22, 2008): 330.2 lbs
Week 1 (October 29, 2008): 322.6 lbs (-7.6 lbs)
Week 2 (November 5, 2008): 320.2 lbs (-2.4 lbs)
Week 3 (November 12, 2008): 319.2 lbs (-1.0 lbs)
Week 4 (November 19, 2008): 312.2 lbs (-7.0 lbs)
Week 5 (November 26, 2008): 310.6 lbs (-1.6 lbs)
Week 6 (December 3, 2008): 304.8 lbs (-5.8 lbs)
Week 7 (December 10, 2008): 304.6 lbs (-0.2 lbs)
Week 8 (December 17, 2008): 298.4 lbs (-6.2 lbs)
Week 9 (December 24, 2008): 298.0 lbs (-0.4 lbs)
Week 10 (December 30, 2008): 293.8 lbs (-4.2 lbs)
Week 11 (January 7, 2009 ): 293.8 lbs (0 lbs)
Week 12 (January 14, 2008): 290.4 lbs (-3.4 lbs)
Week 13 (January 21, 2008): 291.6 lbs (+1.2 lbs)
Week 14 (January 28, 2009): 288.8 lbs (-2.8 lbs)
Week 15 (February 4, 2009): 287.6 lbs (-1.2 lbs)
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Week 25 (April 15 , 2009): 316.4 lbs (+28.8 lbs)
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Week 33 (June 10, 2009): 305.6 lbs (-10.8 lbs)
Week 34 (June 17, 2009): 302.2 lbs (-3.4 lbs)
Week 35 (June 24, 2009): 297.0 lbs (-5.2 lbs)
Week 36 (July 1, 2009): 291.6 lbs (-5.4 lbs)
Week 37 (July 8, 2009): 289.6 lbs (-2.0 lbs)

In 37 weeks I'm down 40.6 lbs for an average weekly loss of 1.10 lbs per week.
Since returning to this WOE 4 weeks ago, I'm down 16.0 lbs for an average weekly loss of 4.00 lbs per week.

I had a big drop this morning, 2.4 lbs since yesterday, which makes up for my small stall between Sunday and Wednesday, my official weigh in day.

But being obcessed with the scale when I'm trying to lose, every day, 8 times a day is weigh in time for me. Laughing

287.2 lbs

I'm now back below where I was when I stupidly decided to skip weeks 16 through 32. At one point in there, when I started walking and running in mid April I was up to 316.4 lbs.

I just updated my picture thread and the first post of this thread with new pictures. It seems to me most of it has come off my back.

Weekends going good. I pulled/tore/??? my hamstring on Thursdays run so I'm not sure if I'll get out for much of a run at all on Sunday. I didn't run at all yesterday or today.

Pretty much a weekend carting the kids around to soccer games while Mrs. Bagadonitz writes a term paper.

Bit of a crappy week for me.

On Thursday's training run I injured my left hamstring which pretty much ruins my chances of finishing the race I've been training for since April on July 26th. I tried to run on Sunday and it was still bothering me so I did a long ride on my bicycle instead to try and keep the cardio up at least. Then on Monday I stubbornly played two softball games and might have made the leg worse. I'm going to give it another few days before I try again. Regardless I'll run the race or at least try to. My $50 entry fee is non refundable & non transferrable so....

Between then and Monday bed time I made a few bad food choices out of pity for myself but nothing too serious and the portions were never too bad. I did knock myself out of ketosis and between that and a poor water drinking effort, I'm up a bit this week.

I gave my head a good shake yesterday however and I'm back on track and hoping to see some pink ketostix later today. I think most of this weight I have on is water weight and it should fall off quick so fingers crossed for a whoose week coming up.

The numbers...

Starting Weight (October 22, 2008): 330.2 lbs
Week 1 (October 29, 2008): 322.6 lbs (-7.6 lbs)
Week 2 (November 5, 2008): 320.2 lbs (-2.4 lbs)
Week 3 (November 12, 2008): 319.2 lbs (-1.0 lbs)
Week 4 (November 19, 2008): 312.2 lbs (-7.0 lbs)
Week 5 (November 26, 2008): 310.6 lbs (-1.6 lbs)
Week 6 (December 3, 2008): 304.8 lbs (-5.8 lbs)
Week 7 (December 10, 2008): 304.6 lbs (-0.2 lbs)
Week 8 (December 17, 2008): 298.4 lbs (-6.2 lbs)
Week 9 (December 24, 2008): 298.0 lbs (-0.4 lbs)
Week 10 (December 30, 2008): 293.8 lbs (-4.2 lbs)
Week 11 (January 7, 2009 ): 293.8 lbs (0 lbs)
Week 12 (January 14, 2008): 290.4 lbs (-3.4 lbs)
Week 13 (January 21, 2008): 291.6 lbs (+1.2 lbs)
Week 14 (January 28, 2009): 288.8 lbs (-2.8 lbs)
Week 15 (February 4, 2009): 287.6 lbs (-1.2 lbs)
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Week 25 (April 15 , 2009): 316.4 lbs (+28.8 lbs)

Week 33 (June 10, 2009): 305.6 lbs (-10.8 lbs)

Week 35 (June 24, 2009): 297.0 lbs (-5.2 lbs)

Week 37 (July 8, 2009): 289.6 lbs (-2.0 lbs)
Week 38 (July 15, 2009): 291.6 lbs (+2.0 lbs)

In 38 weeks I'm down 38.6 lbs for an average weekly loss of 1.02 lbs per week.

It does sound like you had a crappy week. We all get them now and then. Makes you appreciate the better weeks, ya know? Hope the leg heals in time. You've worked so hard for this. Sad

Yeah I was/am bummed but no need to come unglued over it either. When I think about it, my food intake wasn't so bad, and certainly not much worse really than any other weekend since I started again in June. My downfall was not drinking water for the most part. I spent the entire weekend on the road with my 8 yo daughter's soccer games and neglected to drink water.

I just hope this leg heals quick as running is my favorite thing to do when doing it consistently.

Well back into the 280's today at 289.2 lbs. Must have been water weight cause I'm peeing like a racehorse.

I was REALLY busy with work last night and before I realized it it was 1:00 am and I hadn't eaten since 11:30 pm which certainly didn't help. Had some pepperoni and cheese and went to bed. Like bliss pirate said, working from home, you at times forget to eat.

I had a big breakfast and feel great. I didn't get back into ketosis yet but I'm guessing by tonight I will as I have only been eating induction foods for the last three days and it usually doesn't take me long to get there.

Nice job...how is the running coming along? Any improvment on your leg? Have you been to a doctor or do you visit Dr. Internet (like me)? heh.

I haven't tried to run since Monday at my softball games. I'm going to maybe try a little jog later today.

I live in Canada where going to the doctor means wasting your time for the most part. 4 hours wait to get to see a family doctor, 8 weeks wait to see a specialist. Not work the hassle.

It was a very slight injury which I felt right away and didn't aggravate much so I should be good for July 26 10 mile road race.

That's terrible regarding medical care in Canada. I have heard many stories similar to that and also read where people come from Canada to get procedures done here in the US because by the time they get scheduled there they will have likely already passed on.

This is the same National Healthcare that the current administration is trying to push on us. Sorry, I prefer a free market and like that if I don't like my doctor I can just go to another one. If I think they are charging to much for a procedure I can go shop around. Of course I also mentioned that I use Web MD and self diagnose more often than not. I have "Catastrophic" health insurance with a supplimental Health Savings Account to cover incidentals. My opinion this is what all US citizens should be on. It would keep people from showing up at the Doctors office everytime they have a hangnail or the sniffles. Put the responsibility back on the patient to be smart about their medical care and not abusing the system...rant over.

Anyway, don't overdue it and heal up.

and for a lot of your citizens, doctor's visits are a looooong wait away (like, never, cause they can't afford it - i have some poor friends in WA)
i'm canadian Smile -

here in australia, there is a double system. private and public. if you want to go public, there are waits etc for non-emergency procedures, and the emerg rooms are very frustrating, but if you have private cover, you can get things done in a private hosp (i had both my kiddies private - 4-night stays ahhhhh)...

but - with private, you also pay a "gap", which can be a LOT - i miss canada and never having to pay at the doc.....that is worth a lot to me....but people do go down to the states for things if they can afford them....

but yeah, clogging up the er's over stupid things will always happen, becasue people want attention. seriously, i have 2 friends who are paramedics, and the number of calls they get for "sore leg", or "fix my air conditioning" (TRUTH!) are enormous..in 12 hours they may only get a few "serious" calls..... makes me worry about calling for a real need for myself!

I had another good week. I pretty much stuck to plan all week and weekend except for a couple of mild but planned deviations. One of those didn't work out so well for me when I ate some local fast food that I had not had in over a month (I used to eat it just about every day). It made me sick to be honest and wondering why I ate it and how I ever ate it, but I digress.

I've not been able to train for the race coming up this Sunday, July 26th due to a pulled hamstring. Been over almost two weeks since I ran on it. Yesterday a new pair of running shoes I ordered showed up and I couldn't resist trying them so I got on the treadmill and did a race pace for 10 minutes. It felt great and while I can still feel a slight knot in my leg it didn't hurt. Today I have softball so instead of going to those games "cold", I'm going to go outside for a jog to warm up and hopefully I can run and finish the race this week.

I'm setting a three week mini goal for myself today. I'd like to get to 275 lbs in the next three weeks. That's the day before my 34th birthday as well as the same day the owner of the company I work for is visiting the province I live and staying with me for a few days. Him and his wife (who also works with me) are coming across the country to a wedding for another coworker who grew up close to where I now live. I'll be attending that wedding with a bunch of my remote coworkers and the last time any of them saw me in person, I was tipping the scales at 330 lbs. It will be nice to tell them I'm down a nice round 55 lbs if anyone notices.

I also set a couple of other goals. First, for one year since I came back I would like to get down to 3/4 of where I started, which puts me at about 247.6 lbs. After my August 12 goal, that is 2.5 lbs / week which I think is very obtainable.

The next goal is for 199 lbs. When I got down to 220 lbs last time I think I still had 20 to lose so this time I'm going to try to do so. Again I've gone with 2.5 lbs per week as an average and set the date to March 10 of next year. Honestly, I think that will be rakishly thin for me but I expect I'll start working out soon so if I add some muscle, it won't be so bad. If I never make this goal I won't be upset, it would just be nice to say, for once in my life since puberty, that I'm under 200 lbs.

Anyways, the numbers.

Starting Weight (October 22, 2008): 330.2 lbs
Week 1 (October 29, 2008): 322.6 lbs (-7.6 lbs)
Week 2 (November 5, 2008): 320.2 lbs (-2.4 lbs)
Week 3 (November 12, 2008): 319.2 lbs (-1.0 lbs)
Week 4 (November 19, 2008): 312.2 lbs (-7.0 lbs)
Week 5 (November 26, 2008): 310.6 lbs (-1.6 lbs)
Week 6 (December 3, 2008): 304.8 lbs (-5.8 lbs)
Week 7 (December 10, 2008): 304.6 lbs (-0.2 lbs)
Week 8 (December 17, 2008): 298.4 lbs (-6.2 lbs)
Week 9 (December 24, 2008): 298.0 lbs (-0.4 lbs)
Week 10 (December 30, 2008): 293.8 lbs (-4.2 lbs)
Week 11 (January 7, 2009 ): 293.8 lbs (0 lbs)
Week 12 (January 14, 2008): 290.4 lbs (-3.4 lbs)
Week 13 (January 21, 2008): 291.6 lbs (+1.2 lbs)
Week 14 (January 28, 2009): 288.8 lbs (-2.8 lbs)
Week 15 (February 4, 2009): 287.6 lbs (-1.2 lbs)
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Week 25 (April 15 , 2009): 316.4 lbs (+28.8 lbs)
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Week 33 (June 10, 2009): 305.6 lbs (-10.8 lbs)
Week 34 (June 17, 2009): 302.2 lbs (-3.4 lbs)
Week 35 (June 24, 2009): 297.0 lbs (-5.2 lbs)
Week 36 (July 1, 2009): 291.6 lbs (-5.4 lbs)
Week 37 (July 8, 2009): 289.6 lbs (-2.0 lbs)
Week 38 (July 15, 2009): 291.6 lbs (+2.0 lbs)
Week 39 (July 22, 2009): 286.2 lbs (-5.4 lbs)

The Friday keep myself honest and accountable for the weekend post:

283.4 lbs

I got a good week going and I have the 10 mile road race this Sunday. I injured my hamstring two weeks ago. I stayed off it and didn't train for over a week and on Monday I ran 1 mile and on Tuesday I ran 3 miles and it was pretty good.

Then, like the idiot I am, I went and played softball on Tuesday and aggrivated it again and it is worse now then before. However I'm stubborn and I will be running the race and if I can't finish it, so be it.

To get through the pain, I'll be loading up on pain killers Saturday night and Sunday morning and this should do it. It is hurt in such a way that if I don't stride too far, it isn't bad so I'll just have to increase my cadence and hope for the best.

I plan to stick to plan today and most of tomorrow but tomorrow evening and pre race Sunday I'll be loading up some carbs. Normally I wouldn't bother but I've been teetering in and out of ketosis this week for some reason so I don't want to risk not having the fuel the body is expecting. After the race and a couple of celebratory wobbly pops however I"ll be back and I'm hoping the whoosh week I have going keeps going.

Wish me luck in the race. I'm trying to be realistic and hope that I finish and finish in 1 hour, 52 minutes (11:12/mile). However before the injury my training had me on pace to do 9:30/mile giving me a time of 1 hour 36 minutes so depending on how the leg holds up and depending on the race adrenaline, I might fall somewhere in between. I don't care ultimately so long as I finish and finish inside of 2 hours.

Good luck in your race this weekend. I am not up to a 10 miler yet. There is one in the spring that is part of the Triple Crown of Running leading up to the KY Derby. I was thinking I would do that one along with the other races in the triple crown.

I will be curious to hear how you handle carb loading. My understanding and what I have read lately is that it really servers no purpose as you can only build up a very limited amount of glycogen in the blood anyway. It seems from what I am reading that ingesting simple chain carbohydrates during the event is much more effective.

BTW...I also saw that you are a Fireman/EMT. I was on the Fire Dept as a Firefighter/EMT for about 6 years but had to leave as it just became to big of a commitment. They were doing about 1200 runs a year and wanted us to participate in 30%. So after a couple of years of limited to no sleep I just quit. I miss it though, nothing gets the blood pumping better than being on the nozzle and running into a house that is fully involved. WOO HOO!!!

Anyway, good luck Brother.

The area I live in has a population of ~5000 people.

We respond to about 120 calls a year, 90% of which are medical (we are first responders with CPR/Oxygen/defib) where we just get them ready for transport/stabilized/take a history while waiting for the paramedics/ambulance from the near by city arrives.

We get a rash of grass/brush fires in the spring & summer, an occasional structure fire and a few MVA.

I've only been doing it for a couple of years and while it is a largely thankless job, I really enjoy it and I'm one of the very few members that actually works locally and being that I have huge flexibility with work, I rarely miss any calls. It is a totally separate group of people from my own circle of friends as well which is nice if for nothing else to get different views on things.

Since I have started I've been lucky really. I have no been on any major incidents. I have not had to put most of my training to use as I have never had to go into an involved structure to do a search for an occupant, I've never extracted anyone using the Hurst tools, I've never had to give CPR either. It's only a mater of time however and I at least think I'm ready for it.

Well I finished my race yesterday despite the injury. I managed go finish the 10 miles in under two hours at 1:57:03 which was my ultimate goal I guess being it is the first time I had run such a race since early 2006. I am a little disappointed in this but glad at least to have finished. I have to also realize that I'm still 20-25lbs heavier than the half marathon I did in 2006. If I extrapolate out my pace from yesterday to the half marathon distance I would get 2:32:10. When I ran that half marathon I did it in 2:15:08. While I'm still a bit heavier I'm much better health overall now vs then and I have since quit my pack a day smoking habit. So I have some comfort in knowing that I would have done it a bit faster if not for my damn leg injury.

I at some pasta and rice Saturday night along with a lot of water. Before the race Sunday I had a bagel, some low carb yogurt and a pink grapefruit. After the race yesterday I was sick with a really bad stomach pains and I basically spent the balance of the day within running distance to a toilet. I don't know if it was the carbs or the pain medication I was taking to get me through it but my innards were in knots and hurt a lot. I didn't eat at all or drink anything else until 10 pm last night when I finally felt like a human and ate some chicken wings. Since them my trips to the head have stopped and I'm feeling better.

I honestly don't know if I under hydrated, over hydrated or what. Today I'm actually up a couple of pounds since Friday, at 285.4 lbs but I guess that should fall away in the next couple of days as I get back into the groove.

Congrats on your race results!!! I think you did GREAT!!! Smile

I bet the stomach issue was caused by a couple of things... or a combination of things. You really taxed/exerted yourself physically, then you added medication to the mixture AND you totally changed your fuel. No wonder your insides refused to cooperate! LOL Eat light... drink plenty of fluids... and I bet you get back to normal quickly. Probably adding carbs like that and then exercising so rigorously did you in. All that insulin... I feel queasy just thinking about it. LOL

Again, congrats on the race!

Honestly I don't think the diet alone did a lot as for the last week + I've barely been going into ketoisis.

I wasn't able to really over exert myself. I wear a heart rate monitor and it was 15-20 bpm below what I normally run at. That is all the leg could take. I wasn't out of breath and was talking with ease with fellow runners for most of the race.

I'm blaming it on my poor choice of medication, Ketorlac. I asked for it and got it because it did wonders for me in Feb 2008 when I broke a couple of bones in my back. It was fine then as I was bedridden and eating whatever crossed my path as it messed up my snowmobiling season.

I took one of these at 10 pm on a partially full stomach, with a LOT of water in my system on Saturday evening before the race. I then took another at 6:00 am before the race with again more water, a bagel, yogurt and grapefruit. I then, for some stupid reason, drank a black coffee.

From wikipedia with what I think was my issue bolded:
Ketorlac:
The most serious risks associated with ketorolac are, as with other NSAIDs, gastrointestinal ulcers, bleeding and perforation; renal (kidney) events ranging from interstitial nephritis to complete kidney failure; hemorrhage, and hypersensitivity reactions.
As with other NSAIDs, fluid and solute retention and edema have been reported with ketorolac. Ketorolac also elevates liver protein levels.

Anyways, I'm done with that medication. I'm taking a couple weeks off running (not cardio, I'll bike) so that my hamstring can heal, then I'm back to training for a 20 k race in October.

Well I'm disappointed with this week. Given I was down almost 3 pounds Friday past and I ran 10 miles on Sunday, I was figuring for a big loss week. But it seems I was and still am retaining water. My legs, especially the injured one, are swollen visably, although I am able to get around fine.

I'v been eating properly aside from some carbs before the race (which I can't say really helped me) and been drinking water a plenty so I'm sure this will soon go away.

Anyways, here are my updated weekly numbers:

Starting Weight (October 22, 2008): 330.2 lbs

Holy smokes! Looked who the cat drug in. Good to see you back Daisy. How's everything, how's your son (I remember his name, just not sure if your're comfortable with it on here).

My leg is mostly recovered and I had a nice jog last night which is good cause I need to get in better shape for an October 18 20K road race.

My eating has been good.

In a previous post here somewhere I mentioned I was a volunteer firefighter. I just got home from a bad vehicle accident/fire and I had to ride in the ambulance with the victim and paramedics. I can't describe how awful what I was just part of was and I'll spare you the details but I feel we did our job as best as possible and we got him to the hospital alive, the rest is the doctors hands. The worst part is we were unable to identify this poor soul and the information he was giving us was sketchy at best. Hopefully they figure out who he is soon.

Anyways, here are my updated weekly numbers. I had a great week but to be honest, I'm not overly excited about it this morning:

Starting Weight (October 22, 2008): 330.2 lbs

It's never easy to see a person holding on like that and not nearly as romantic or sensationalized as in the spam. More screaming, terror and pain than anything else. My department was as the interchange of 3 major highways so there was never a shortage of MVA's.

6.4 pounds this week, are you kidding me? How are you doing this? That is awesome and keep it up and rest up for your upcoming 20K.

Yes this is not something I'll soon forget. I haven't been able to think about eating yet but I'm starting to feel a little better.

The weight loss of 6.4 lbs should be split with last week. After the 10 mile race last week I blew up with water weight due to the medication I was on I think, bumping last weeks weight up. I'm back now where I hoped to be. I have 3.8 lbs to go to a mini goal I had set for last week so I have to keep the course.

I probably don't eat enough. I have ZERO appetite when eating like this, especially when drinking the right amount of water (and I don't over do water). I basically eat three squares a day with minimal snacking, which I usually force myself to eat. Some of the things I do eat, are probably not the most acceptable but so long as I'm going down and I feel good, that's all that matters. I haven't checked for ketosis in a couple weeks and I don't think I am in it (I can usually tell by the taste in my mouth). I'm not under eating either, just eating large meal portions of mostly acceptable food and the appetite isn't there otherwise. It is the lack of snacking that is doing it for me. I was bad with junk food snacking, which is just laden with carbs and calories with little substance, which has been my downfall.

"I haven't checked for ketosis in a couple weeks and I don't think I am in it (I can usually tell by the taste in my mouth)."

I think you are in ketosis as evidenced by your weight loss and lack of appetite. Not having ketone breath just means that you don't have extra ketones (beyond what your body requires) to spill over into your urine and/or breath. That's why the stix are really useless... they only tell you about the extra your body didn't need. Well, WHY would we want EXTRA anyway? Wouldn't that mean we had more than we could use? Certainly our bodies aren't going to metabolize more body fat for energy than is required, since it's the fuel our bodies store for emergencies, like famine.... which means the extra must be coming from... what? Well, what else... our diet! Personally, I'd rather have a trace or no color change at all when I KNOW I'm eating right. It means I'm properly hydrated and not overeating fat (ketones are the by product of fat metabolizing).

"Some of the things I do eat, are probably not the most acceptable but so long as I'm going down and I feel good, that's all that matters."

I totally agree... so long as those questionable foods are foods, and not junk (an apple is a far cry from a bite sized Snickers bar, for example). There may come a time when your wt loss stalls and then you can "tighten up the plan" if you have to. Your wt loss is proof enough that you're doing what works for you.

Yes Tril, that is precisely it. The questionable foods are not junk. When I absolutely must have something sweet, a few "1 cent" candy does the trick for me. I will admit to once a week eating one meal of whatever I please, usually on the weekend, usually in a social setting. Even in those occasions, I don't go wild (yes I'll have a spoon full of macaroni salad, no thanks on the thrice baked potato OR yes I'll have a small portion of fruit salad but no thanks on the chocolate cake).

So long as it works and the scale goes down. When I stall, I know how to tighten up but in the long term, I'm trying to make this all stick this time rather than lose and return to brutally bad habits. I'm also fully aware that I'm still obese so my basal calorie burn is still quite high. As I get lower I know I'll need to adjust my diet accordingly, but I feel I'm getting prepared for that time.

Well time to update.

I was pretty stressed out with work and life and needed some time away from the computer so I took a few weeks off and traveled a bit.

I ate what I wanted during this time while still keeping portions under control. I did not formally exercise (though I did do a lot of hiking) and I didn't drink any water (spent most of the time driving and I was too cheap to buy water).

I have a little weight on since my last check in but I'm refocused today and I'm sure it is mostly water weight and will come off fast.

The few pounds was worth it to me. I needed a break on all fronts and I got to enjoy some non stressful time with the kids and wifey while she had a brake from nursing school. My head is now in a clear space again for the coming onslaught of 1 year straight for her to finish her degree.

I had probably met the goal I had set of 275 lbs for August 12 but I didn't step on a scale since August 5th until this morning so I don't know. I hope to get there in two weeks once I get back on track today.

The numbers...

Starting Weight (October 22, 2008): 330.2 lbs
Week 1 (October 29, 2008): 322.6 lbs (-7.6 lbs)
Week 2 (November 5, 2008): 320.2 lbs (-2.4 lbs)
Week 3 (November 12, 2008): 319.2 lbs (-1.0 lbs)
Week 4 (November 19, 2008): 312.2 lbs (-7.0 lbs)
Week 5 (November 26, 2008): 310.6 lbs (-1.6 lbs)
Week 6 (December 3, 2008): 304.8 lbs (-5.8 lbs)
Week 7 (December 10, 2008): 304.6 lbs (-0.2 lbs)
Week 8 (December 17, 2008): 298.4 lbs (-6.2 lbs)
Week 9 (December 24, 2008): 298.0 lbs (-0.4 lbs)
Week 10 (December 30, 2008): 293.8 lbs (-4.2 lbs)
Week 11 (January 7, 2009 ): 293.8 lbs (0 lbs)
